UFC ON ESPN 51: Viana vs Lucindo 08/12/2023 – Strawweight fighters Polyana Viana and Iasmin Lucindo lock horns in a three-round encounter on Saturday, August 12, at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. Polyana Viana

Viana (13-5, 4-4 UFC) has picked up the pace since losing three successive fights to J.J. Aldrich, Hannah Cifers and Veronica Hardy between August 4, 2018, and August 10, 2019. The Brazilian has scored three wins in four fights and all of her foes did not last the distance as they all end in the first round. Emily Whitmire and Mallory Martin were victims of her armbar submission while Jinh Yu Frey was knocked out in just 47 seconds. Viana will come into the fight with a two-inch height advantage which she can use in developing her striking games against Lucindo.

Stats wise, Viana has knocked out five of her rivals and submitted eight others. She was able to land an average of 3.5 significant strikes per minute. The Brazilian was able to connect 41% of her significant strikes and will need to be more accurate if she wants to improve her chances of winning against Lucindo. Her defense against strikes is above average at 54% as she has absorbed 2.86 strikes per minute. Iasmin Lucindo

Lucindo (14-5, 1-1 UFC) has mightily bounced back from her UFC debut loss to Jauregui in August 2022 as she swept past Walker in April. It was the first victory in the octagon for the Fortaleza native as she looks to add Viana to her list of victims on August 12. Lucindo will come into the fight two inches shorter than Viana but she is capable of dictating the pace by using her speed and grappling skills. Lucindo has 10 finishes (eight knockouts and two submissions) in 14 wins. He lost once by knockout, two by submissions and two by decision.

In terms of grappling stats, Lucindo has averaged two successful takedowns per 15 minutes in two UFC appearances. She was able to connect 57% of her takedown attempts.
