UFC on ESPN+ 9 Betting & Sportsbook Picks for Iaquinta vs. Cowboy
Posted by: Charlie Smith
The year’s UFC sports betting action continues this weekend with an enticing lightweight bout between Al Iaquinta and Donald Cerrone. Undoubtedly that match should be the perfect finale to this weekend’s UFC on ESPN+ 9 betting action. Iaquinta is certainly looking for a performance that will propel him to another UFC Lightweight championship bout. Similarly, Cowboy is aiming to land himself another high profile matchup in this division. So what can sportsbook fans expect out of this weekend’s action?
UFC on ESPN+ 9: Iaquinta vs. Cowboy – Saturday, May 4th
When: Main Card: 8:00 pm ET || Prelims: 5:00 pm ET
Where: Canadian Tire Centre, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
TV: Main Card: ESPN+ || Prelims: ESPN+
This weekend’s action will mark the UFC’s second trip to Ottawa following UFC Fight Night 89 back in 2016. There have been a flurry of changes on the card but fans are delighted to see that the headlining fight of the night is still intact. All in all this was certainly a surprise considering the flood of rumors that circulated this event, including one that mentioned McGregor taking on Cowboy. Nevertheless, no one is complaining about the matchup in store for this Saturday.
Al Iaquinta is coming off an extremely dominant unanimous decision win over Kevin Lee from UFC on Fox 31. This was back when the UFC still had their deal with Fox, in December of 2018 to be more precise. Although Lee was coming off a dominant TKO win over Edson Barboza, he still came up short against the real estate agent. Considering the judged had scored the bout 48-47, 48-47 and 49-46, there’s no question that Iaquinta did in fact come out on top. Fans who watched Iaquinta face off against Khabib Nurmagomedov back at UFC 223 were far from surprised by the turnout. After all, Iaquinta showed he was able to wrestle with the best grappler in the division. However, Cerrone is both a capable wrestler and terrific striker. With this in mind, it’s clear Iaquinta will need more than great wrestling to win Saturday.

Cowboy is one of the toughest fighters in the UFC and oftentimes this is his biggest downside. Because Cerrone is too tough to say no, he oftentimes ends up fighting way too frequently. Additionally, Cerrone isn’t scared of anyone and will face anyone on the roster at a moment’s notice. While this has led to his considerable following, it also has put a ton of mileage on his body. At the present time Cerrone is coming off a TKO win over Alexander Hernandez at UFC Fight Night 143, which took place in January. This weekend’s action would mark his 4th fight in less than a year, which says all you need to know about Cerrone. If we get Cowboy at his absolute best this Saturday, then Cerrone should have no problem taking care of the real estate agent.
If we get anything less, there’s no telling how this bout will turn out. One thing legal betting fans can bank on is that they’ll get a fight they won’t want to miss.
