Early UFC 229 Betting Odds:
Anyone who has seen Khabib fight knows he presents a massive problem for McGregor. Although Conor is more than capable of knocking out Nurmagomedov with a single blow, it seems unlikely that he’ll get that chance. For starters, Khabib is widely considered one of the best wrestlers in the UFC. Alongside him in that category are Daniel Cormier and Luke Rockhold, who just happen to be teammates with the Dagestani. So, if there’s any group of people who can figure out how take McGregor down, or anyone for that matter, early in a fight it is this group. With that in mind, let’s paint a scenario for Khabib. We can imagine that as soon as the fight starts Khabib will be gunning to take McGregor down. In fact, this is really the only logical thing for him to do. Considering how dominant Khabib and his team are in this arena, it’s very likely that he will succeed in taking McGregor down.
So, with McGregor on the mat early on in the fight, we can imagine Khabib resorting to his usual mauling of an opponent. Given how much animosity these two share, it’s likely to be one of the biggest beatdowns anyone in the UFC has ever received. And considering the trouble Chad Mendes gave McGregor, coupled with the fact that nobody has been able to get out from under Khabib, it’s looking like it’ll be a long night for McGregor.
So, considering the above-listed text, does McGregor stand a chance in this fight? Of course he does. After all, this is Conor McGregor we’re talking about. Throughout every step of his UFC career, McGregor has done everything he can to set himself apart from what he considers to be a sorry bunch of losers. This includes taking on the biggest challenges the UFC has to offer, the forthright being Khabib. All in all, McGregor has some pretty good takedown defense. So if he’s able to stave off the takedowns early in the fight, he might be able to land a brutal KO. However, if he does get taken down, it’s likely that we’ll see a fatigued McGregor early in the bout. Fatigue has cost McGregor the Nate Diaz fight and the Mayweather fight. It has however, never cost Khabib a fight. Ultimately, if this fight goes to the later rounds, it’s hard to imagine McGregor standing a chance. It’ll be interesting to see how he chooses to close the gap against Nurmagomedov. Make no doubt about it, making early UFC 229 betting predictions is one of the toughest picks a sportsbook bettor can make.
