Wimbledon Heads for Women’s Tennis Betting Semi-Finals

One of the most promising online tennis betting opportunities of the year continues this week as the Women’s Wimbledon tournament will give bettors the perfect reason to flock to sportsbook sites.

The Semi-Finals of the tournament will be held this Thursday, and most betting eyes will shift their attention towards Venus Williams, like they have for so many years past. Williams is set to face Johanna Konta in a match that is shaping up to be one for the ages.

WTA Wimbledon Matchups – Thursday, July 13th

When: 8:00 am ET

TV: BBC 1, ESPN

Stream: BBC Sport Tennis, Watch ESPN

Venus Williams +1 ½ (-235)  +102 vs. Johanna Konta -1 ½ (+195)           -122

Both Williams and Konta earned hard-fought wins to punch their ticket to the semi-finals. Rightfully so, the online betting lines are predicting an extremely close contest.

Williams overcame French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko at the All-England club this past Wednesday in spectacular fashion. Similarly, Konta – who came into this contest as Britain’s No. 1, overcame Simona Halep in London.

With that victory, Konta not only ruined Halep’s chances of earning a top-ranking spot in WTA rankings, she also became the first Briton female to reach the semi-finals since 1978. But breaking the dry spell wasn’t the most notable thing about that match, rather it was Konta’s ability to come back despite early adversary.

Konta dropped the 1st set but showed superb esteem by bouncing back to win the match. Jamie Murray, a 3-time Grand Slam doubles winner who also hails from the United Kingdom, had this to say about Konta’s performance.

“Konta totally deserved that win,” Murray wrote on a social media post. “[She] was aggressor from start to finish. Controlled middle of the (centre) court so well.”

Although she received a lot of praise for her performance, there was also a pinch of controversy. On match point, an early and unwarranted cheer (for Konta) clearly distracted Halep. It wasn’t the ending we were hoping for, as the awkwardness certainly took away from the magnitude of the moment.

Nevertheless, the slight controversy was not enough to keep Konta from entering the semi-final round, where she will face an online tennis betting titan. The odds are in Konta’s favor, likely stemming from her defeat of Williams earlier this year in the semi-final round of the Miami Open.

Albeit, Wimbledon is widely considered to be Williams’ home. The grass court is familiar territory for Venus, as the 37-year old will be making her 10th semi-final appearance in the tournament.

Garbine Muguruza -1 ½ (-106) -241 vs. Magdalena Rybarikova +1 ½ (-114) +201

The other match of the day will likely garner a large audience as well, even though the online tennis betting lines aren’t predicting a quite as spectacular outing. Rybarikova got her ticket to the semis by defeating Coco Vandeweghe. Muguruza will present a tougher challenge. This marks Rybarikova’s first semi-final appearance, and against an opponent who will show no mercy, Rybarikova will need all the help she can get.
