World-class tennis action will take center stage with the 141st edition of the United States Open. The fourth and last Grand Slam tennis tournament will kick off on Monday, August 30, with the best tennis stars from around the world seeing action. Twenty-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic will be the overwhelming favorite in the men’s singles competition.
He will attempt to win a record-setting 21st major crown and break the tie he holds with fellow greats Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Defending champion Dominic Thiem will not be around to defend the title due to injury so will Federer and Nadal. Despite the absence of the major stars, Djokovic will still have his hands full in this event with young stars Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Alexander Zverev all aiming at a shot at the title.
Naomi Osaka will try to defend the title she won last year to conclude an eventful 2021 season for the Japanese tennis star. She will still have company though with the likes of top seed Ashleigh Barty and second-ranked Aryna Sabalenka. Online tennis betting sites are counting on overwhelming favorite Djokovic to win the title and make history while Barty is slightly favored to win the US Open and the third Grand Slam title of her career in a star-studded field.

When: August 30-September 12, 2021
The hardcourt tennis event is the modern version of one of the oldest tennis championships in the world, the US National Championships. Since 1987, it was the fourth and final Grand Slam tournament of the year after the Wimbledon Championships. The tournament plays over 17 Laykold surface hard courts, including the three existing main show courts – Arthur Ashe Stadium, Louis Armstrong Stadium, and Grandstand.
This is the first Grand Slam event since the 1997 Australian Open that will miss the likes of Nadal, Federer, and the Williams sisters – Serena and Venus. In last year’s event, Thiem outplayed Zverev in five sets, 2-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6(8-6), to claim his first Grand Slam title. On the women’s side, Osaka came back from a set down to beat Azarenka, 1-6, 6-3, 6-3. This was the Japanese star’s second US Open title.
Betting on Tennis at US Open
The US Open main tournament consists of 128 men and 128 women all aiming to secure the Grand Slam title. Djokovic will be the top seed for the men’s side and Barty on the distaff side. The men’s singles will have Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev, Andrey Rublev, Matteo Berrettini, Denis Shapovalov, and Casper Ruud occupying seeds second to eighth. Aside from Nadal, Federer, and Thiem, other notable withdrawals include Aljaz Bedene, Borna Coric, and Kyle Edmund. Others include Stan Wawrinka, Milos Raonic, and Gilles Simon.
One of the withdrawals rendered an opportunity for Andy Murray to take part in the men’s singles tournament. Although the Brit will be up against Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first round, Murray is still capable of pulling off his tennis magic despite his advanced age. In the women’s side, Barty is the top seed. Following her are Sabalenka, Osaka, Karolina Pliskova, Elina Svitolina, Andreescu, Swiatek and Krejcikova.
Aside from the Williams sisters, withdrawing from the tournament were Sofia Kenin, Laura Siegemund, Patricia Maria Tig, Wang Qiang, Zheng Saisai, and Zhu Lin. Among the notable players competing in the tournament with a protective ranking are Samantha Stosur and Carla Suarez Navarro.

US Open Pick
Djokovic is the overwhelming favorite to win the 2021 US Open men’s singles while Barty is the most likely to take home the title in the star-studded women’s side, according to online tennis sportsbooks. Moreover, both are fresh from winning the Wimbledon championships and the duo are several notches above the competition. Unless there is a surprise from lower-seeded tennis stars, Djokovic and Barty are capable of going all the way and bring home the title.
