Ram & Salisbury vs Purcell & Saville: 2020 Australian Open Odds

Rajeev Ram & Joe Salisbury

The American-British tandem of Ram and Salisbury reached their first Grand Slam final as a team on Thursday as they outplayed the duo of Alexander Bublik and Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan in three sets in the men’s doubles semifinals. Before reaching the semis, Ram and Salisbury breezed through their four opponents in straight sets. The pair had to come back from a set down and a breakpoint down to beat the Kazakhstani duo. They also benefited from the service flaws of Bublik, who served five double faults in the ninth game of the deciding set.

It will be the first-ever Grand Slam final for Salisbury, whose highest achievement in a major tennis tournament was reaching the semifinals in the 2018 Wimbledon Championships with former partner Frederik Nielsen of Denmark. Ram is gunning for his second Grand Slam tennis title as he emerged victorious last year in the mixed doubles tournament when he paired with Barbora Krejcikova.

Max Purcell & Luke Saville

Purcell and Saville were basically unheralded entering the Australian Open. They bounced around the ATP Challenger Tour scene and had a remarkable stint there, winning seven of nine final events in the circuit. Unexpectedly, an opportunity came knocking on their doorstep. They were given a wildcard berth in the first major of the year. And boy, the pair took advantage of the opportunity in epic proportions.

Purcell and Saville took down their opponents in the first four rounds to reach the semifinals against the fourth-seeded tandem of Ivan Dodig and Filip Polasek. In the final four, the Australian duo came from a set down to outclass Dodig and Polasek and move a match away from becoming the first all-Australian tandem to win the title in 23 years since the legendary doubles team of Mark Woodforde and Todd Woodbridge.

Ram & Salisbury vs Purcell & Saville Picks

Tennis betting picks select Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury as slight favorites in the men’s doubles final. In terms of experience, the Ram-Salisbury has a big advantage over Luke Saville and Max Purcell. However, the hometown crowd is cheering for Saville and Purcell who are motivated to end Australia’s 23-year wait for a men’s doubles title. Experience in the big stage will give the Ram-Salisbury pairing their first Grand Slam title as a duo.
