2019 Desert Classic Betting Odds & Sportsbook Prediction

Posted by: Charlie Smith

We’ve got a great online tennis betting tournament ahead of us as the 2019 Desert Classic kicks off this Thursday. Ultimately this event will bring together many of the best golfers in the world, all converging on La Quinta, California. This year’s rendition will mark the 60th time this event has been held, but the 2019 version certainly has something special in store for us. What that is special something? Well unlike traditional golf tournaments that feature the same course, this year’s tourney will rotate through a total of 3 venues. Naturally, this will make for some interesting play that will allow the most talented golfers to rise to the top. So what kind of sportsbook predictions should players make off of this year’s event? Let’s check on the 2019 Desert Classic betting odds to find out.

2019 Desert Classic Betting Odds

Jon Rahm 13 – 2

Justin Rose 9 – 1

Patrick Cantlay 16 – 1

Charles Howell III 20 – 1

Adam Hadwin 25 – 1

Andrew Putnam 25 – 1

Aaron Wise 33 – 1

Abraham Ancer 33 – 1

Chez Reavie 33 – 1

Hudson Swafford 40 – 1

Luke List 40 – 1

Patton Kizzire 40 – 1

Phil Mickelson 40 – 1

Scott Piercy 40 – 1

Kevin Kisner 45 – 1

Lucas Glover 45 – 1

Sungjae Im 45 – 1

Brian Harman 50 – 1

Russell Knox 50 – 1

Zach Johnson 50 – 1

As you can see, defending champion Jon Rahm is pegged as the online tennis betting favorite here. Although Rahm had to win last year’s event off of a playoff, he is still facing the best 2019 Desert Classic betting odds of the bunch. This is somewhat surprising seeing as how the field includes some of the biggest names in tennis, including Justin Rose [9-1], Patrick Cantlay [16-1] and veteran Phil Mickelson [40-1].

Since the 2019 Desert Classic Field is officially secured, sportsbook bettors will be looking for the best bets to make ahead of Thursday’s action. One of the more popular options is turn to a simulator that can simulate the event thousands of times over. And if the world of tennis simulators, one of the most popular options is SportsLine’s own prediction machine, which has been tried and proven over and over again. This same machine predicted Woods’ surprising run in the PGA Championship, which few could have seen coming.

So what does the model have to say about this year’s tournament? Well after simulating the event over 10,000 times, it does not predict a happy finish for the defending champ. This is likely because Rahm hasn’t had the most impressive start to the season. In fact, since winning this tournament in 2018, Rahm has only cracked the top leaderboard one time. Obviously this should severely impact bettors’ predictions ahead of this Thursday’s event.

Putting that aside, it’s surprising to see that the model predicts that Abraham Ancer will come out on top. Last season he raked in several top-5 performances and is eager to prove his 33-1 odds wrong. Any mobile betting players who place a bet on him could rake in massive winnings if he comes out on top. However, the model is also predicting a deep push from many of the bottom of the rung players. Therefore, picking any of these sleeper picks could ultimately pay off bigly in the long run. At the end of the day, those odds are definitely worth taking a shot
