Soccer betting odds to win the 2016-17 UEFA Champions League have been updated following the end of the round of 16. Here are the updated odds for fans who bet on soccer:
Atlético Madrid +600
Atlético drew 0-0 with Bayer Leverkusen in the second leg of their round of 16 matchup but nonetheless reached the quarter-finals for the fourth straight year on the strength of their 4-2 first leg win, as well as thanks to goalkeeper Jan Oblak’s superb performance in the second leg. The mattress-makers will now face Leicester City in the quarterfinals.
Bayern Munich +325
Die Roten advanced to their sixth consecutive quarter-final after back-to-back 5-1 wins over Arsenal FC. According to Bavarian newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, “Arjen Robben’s muscles are holding up, Franck Ribéry’s bones are intact and Thiago’s knees are good.” Perhaps they have been spending time in that pool from ‘Cocoon’? Munich will meet Real Madrid in the quarterfinals.
Borussia Dortmund +935
Die Schwarzgelben lost the first leg 0-1 to Benfica but a hat-trick by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang helped the German team turn the tables in the second leg and put the BVB through to the quarters for third time the past 10 years. Dortmund will encounter Monaco in the quarterfinals.
FC Barcelona +290
Barça is your current soccer betting favorite to win the 2016-17 UEFA Champions League. And it’s a tough case to argue, even for lifelong Barcelona hater such as yours truly. The blaugranas rallied from a 0-4 deficit in the first leg – a disadvantage no team in the history of the tournament had ever recovered from – to win their round of 16 matchup with an aggregate score of 6-5. It’s official; Paris Saint-Germain is the Golden State Warriors of soccer.
Juve now has the daunting task of raining on Barcelona’s parade in the quarters. La Vecchia Signora defeated Porto 2-0 and 1-0 to advance to their third quarterfinal in the last seven years. Veteran Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon said he wanted to avoid Leicester in the draw for the quarter-finals. Fans who bet on soccer gotta believe he now wishes they had drawn the English squad instead.
Real Madrid +525
In spite of their long-standing goalkeeping issues – which “coincidentally” started when they signed their current starting goalie –, the Whites managed to win their seventh straight round of 16 tie. While some of Madrid’s players are highly overrated, others are unsung heroes. As Argentine newspaper Olé put it, “If there’s one person who can turn things around time and time again when Real Madrid most need him to, it is not Ronaldo, Bale or Benzema [and, we might add, not Navas either], but Ramos.”
AS Monaco +1525
Monaco reached their second quarterfinals in three years after defeating Manchester City on away goals.
Leicester City +4050
Fans who bet soccer’s favourite soccer betting underdog is still hanging in there. The current reigning and defending English Premier League champions Leicester has advanced to the quarterfinals in their first-ever UCL participation after beating Sevilla 3-2 on aggregate.
