Soccer betting odds to win ‘17 Philip F Anschutz Trophy

Posted by: Mike Davis

The New York Red Bulls are the soccer betting favorite to win the Philip F. Anschutz Trophy which will be awarded to the winner of the U.S. Major League Soccer 2017 season. Here are the odds for fans who like to bet on soccer:

New York Red Bulls +510. The Energy Drinks finished the 2016 season first in the Eastern Conference (third overall) with 16 wins, nine losses, nine draws, and 57 points. As a result, they received a bye in the knockout round of the postseason but lost (1-3 aggregate score) in the semis to the Montreal Impact.

Toronto FC +560. Toronto finished 3rd in the Eastern Conference last season (5th overall), four points behind the Red Bulls with 14 wins, nine losses, and 11 draws. The Reds went farther than the NY club though, defeating the Philly Union in the first round, knocking off the other NY club in the semis, winning the conference finals against fellow Canadians the Impact, but dropping the Cup game to the Sounders.

LA Galaxy +655. Fans who bet on soccer were shocked when Steven Gerrard – who played two seasons in Los Angeles – retired. They were shocked because they thought he was already retired. Similar to Robbie Keane, who left the Galaxy at the end of the 2016 season but who claimed that he was not retiring. No, really.

Seattle Sounders +705. The Sounders are the defending MLS Cup champions and as such are soccer betting favorites to become the fourth back-to-back league champions. Seattle finished 2016 4th in the Western Conference with 14 wins, 14 losses, six draws, and 48 points. They defeated Kansas City, Dallas, Colorado, and Toronto on their way to the coveted Philip F. Anschutz Trophy.

Colorado Rapids +1075. After finishing dead last in 2015, the following was the most successful regular season in the history of the Rapids. Colorado finished 2nd in the West and 2nd overall, improving their previous best regular season by one and two respectively. The Rapids went unbeaten at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park with an 11-0-6 record. They allowed only 7 goals at home, to set a new league record with a 0.41 goals-against average. The Rapids also enjoyed a franchise-record 15-game winning streak. The question in the minds of people who bet on soccer is, can Colorado carry the momentum into this season.

FC Dallas +1025. Dallas will enter the 2017 season as the defending Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup champions and Supporters’ Shield title-holders, and as the defending champions for the minor Chicago-Dallas rivalry trophy, the Brimstone Cup.

New York City FC +1625. NY City FC finished second in the Eastern Conference (New York, New York indeed) and fourth overall. Also like the Red Bulls, the inactivity might have affected them and they lost in the semis to Toronto.

DC United +2050. Edging towards what might be called soccer betting underdogginess we have DC United. The Black-and-Red finished fourth in the East and tied for ninth overall in 2016. The United qualified for the postseason for the third straight year. However, the Washington club lost at home to Montreal Impact in the first round.
