The host country, it is somewhat surprising to see Russia pegged as the favorite. Most World Cup betting pundits would readily proclaim that Russia only made the tournament draw because they are hosting the event. So, should Egypt – who was forced to qualify, really be pegged as an underdog against Russia? Well, I guess soccer bookmakers are taking the whole home field advantage into account. Ultimately neither side has found much success lately. But if you had to pick, I guess it wouldn’t be that misguided to take the Russians in their motherland. After all, they have a pretty good track record at home throughout World History.

Players to Watch: Alan Dzagoev (CSKA Moscow), Aleksandr Kokorin (Zenit St. Petersburg), and Yuri Zhirkov (Zenit St. Petersburg).

Pegged as a pretty big underdog, the Egyptians don’t have anything to lose in this contest. As aforementioned, this pairing will mark the Egyptians second at the World Cup. The firs will be an intriguing contest against Uruguay, in which Egypt is pegged as an underdog once again. And while Egypt might not stand a chance against the South American country, they should be able to hold their own against Russia. Ultimately the Egyptians might not make it out of this group. But if they were to, it would begin with a win against Russia.

Players to Watch: Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Mohamed Elneny (Arsenal), and Ramadan Sobhi (Stoke City).
