Bet on the World Cup Odds:
Morocco has taken some heat for electing Herve Renard to lead his team. Since Renard’s World Cup experience is lacking, players who bet on the World Cup believe Morocco will be getting an early exit. All in all this year’s draw marks the 1st World Cup for the Frenchman. However, Renard has gotten plenty of tournament experience from his time spent overseeing teams in Africa. From what has been making its way across the wire, it seems that Morocco’s coaches are confident they can get the best of Iran. The odds seem to believe them, since Morocco is pegged as a slight favorite over the Middle Eastern country. Ultimately Iran is 4 places higher than Morocco in FIFA World Rankings, so it’ll be interesting to see how this pans out.
Players to Watch: Khalid Boutaib (Yeni Malatyaspor), Hakim Ziyech (Ajax), and Medhi Benatia (Juventus).
Led by experienced Portuguese Carlos Queiroz, Iran is hoping to make a deep push in this year’s tournament. This year’s draw marks Queiroz’s 2nd straight trip to the World Cup with Iran. In addition, the Portuguese has also coached South Africa and Portugal at a World Cup. No doubt he brings more experience to the table than his counterpart. Notwithstanding that experience, the coach doesn’t have much to work with. Most of Iran’s stars compete in lesser-known leagues and will have a hard time getting the odds to favor them. That is unless they put on a show in this opening matchup.
Players to Watch: Sardar Azmoun (Rubin Kazan), Mehdi Taremi (Al-Gharafa), and Ehsan Hajsafi (Olympiacos).
