Egypt

Making their first World Cup appearance since Italy 1990, the Egyptians will be vying to begin the tournament on a high note. Additionally, it marks Egypt’s third overall berth into the tournament. Despite having made several trips, Egypt has never actually won a World Cup match. Understandably, the online soccer betting odds have pegged Egypt as a heavy underdog in this matchup. All in all, Uruguay is pegged as the betting favorite to win Group A. Unfortunately for the Egyptians, they drew the top dog right out of the gate. Anything but victory will be a disappointment for the Uruguayans, so it is up to Egypt to spoil their opening day.

Players to Watch: Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Mohamed Elneny (Arsenal), and Ramadan Sobhi (Stoke City).

Uruguay

Uruguay had a pretty good run leading into the 2018 World Cup, considering that they finished 2nd in the South American qualification group. Interestingly enough, Luis Suarez will be making his return to international play after his little incident in the previous World Cup. For those who don’t recall, Suarez decided that it would be a good idea to bit Giorgio Chellini at the 2014 World Cup. This marked Suarez’s second incident in international play, after delivering a handball against Ghana in 2010.

Players to Watch: Edinson Cavani (PSG), Luis Suarez (Barcelona), and Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid).
