Barca Introduces Lewandowski; De Ligt Signs with Bayern

Lewandowski – Spanish league giants FC Barcelona has formally introduced Polish striker Robert Lewandowski to fans and media. Barcelona paid Bayern Munich USD50 million to get the services of Lewandowski. They organized a ceremony to welcome the 33-year-old forward. He was alongside club president Joan Laporta in the event. Lewandowski left the German champions due to a contract dispute. He was involved in a clash with coach Julian Naglesman over tactical choices. During his time in Bayern, he scored 344 goals in 375 matches. He broke the single-season scoring record in the German Bundesliga. He could debut in Las Vegas this weekend against Real Madrid. This would test his readiness for the 2022-23 La Liga season.

The Polish footballer joins financially-troubled Barca as its fourth summer transfer acquisition after Ivory Coast midfielder Franck Kessie, Chelsea defender Andreas Chirstiansen and Brazilian winger Raphinha. His entry into the Spanish La Liga circuit meant that Barca would contend again for the title. The development also increases Barcelona’s chances in the UEFA Champions League and boosts the team’s odds in European betting circles in the 2022-23 season.

Bayern Munich Adds De Ligt

German Bundesliga champion Bayern Munich has signed Dutch international Matthijs de Ligt on a five-year deal. The team formalized the transaction at a time they are trying to move on from the recent transfer of Lewandowski to Barcelona. Bayern paid USD78 million to claim the defender from Juventus via transfer. The deal represents the most expensive transfer deal in team history after they gave USD80 million to acquire the services of another defender Lucas Hernandez in 2019. Bayern will use the money generated from the USD45-million transfer of the Polish striker to finance the move to snap up de Ligt.

The defender’s arrival was part of the German giants’ bid to retain the title. They also acquired Sadio Mane from Liverpool and the duo of Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui from Ajax. German media reported Bayern paid about USD120 million to secure the transfers of the three players. De Ligt debuted in Ajax when he was 17. In 2019, he transferred to Juventus for USD85 million. There is a possibility that Bayern may acquire more players. Reports said that Konrad Leimer (Leipzig), Mathys Tel (Rennes), and Harry Kane (Tottenham) are their next transfer targets.

Bremer Transfers to Juventus

Thirty-six-time Italian Serie A champions Juventus acquired Gleison Bremer from Torino a day after Matthijs de Ligt signed for Bayern Munich. Juve paid USD42 million to secure the transfer of the 25-year-old Brazilian defender. The deal will tie Bremer with Juventus until 2027, the team said. The Massimiliano Allegri-managed side seeks to capture their first Serie A title since 2020. The quest for the crown kicked off when they signed Frenchman Paul Pogba and Argentine Angel Di Maria to new deals. The Bianconeri lost Paulo Dybala, who joined AS Roma after his contract with Juve expired.
