Amazon Names UEFA Champions League XI: Messi Ronaldo And Sholes Included
Posted by: Hilbert Mayer
As the UEFA Champions League is set to seal the season with the finals between Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, Amazon has named their XI best in history according to the position.
At Goal Keeper, Iker Casillas is no doubt the best ever to lace it up in the UEFA Champions League. He has been a three-time champion and also produced a masterclass in 2002 finals. Closely making to the list was Gianluigi Buffon but championships count and Casillas win on that avenue.
Casillas played most of his playing years in Real Madrid from 1999 to 2015. He transferred to Porto and played until 2020 before retiring at the age of 39.
Dani Alves makes it to the XI as the Right Back as he won three championships in his career. He has spent most of his younger years at Sevilla before transferring to Barcelona in 2008. After his stint in Barcelona, the Portuguese footballer had stints in Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain. He currently plays in Sao Paulo.
Another player considered at Right Back is the legendary Brazillian player Cafu. He played in the UEFA Champions League from 1989-2018 but championships set aside both players to settle the debate.
Playing at Central Defender, you have Spanish footballer Carles Puyol taking the slot over Gerard Pique. Puyol has only played for Barcelona in his 15-year career and has won three championships with the team.
UEFA Champions League is Back
Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos is Amazon’s choice for Center Back as he is still continuing to make his mark with the team after winning four championships in the last decade. Earlier, Ramos polished his skills in Sevilla in his early career and even as a junior. Now, he is the main face in the Real Madrid roster.
In the 2014 finals, it is still fresh in fans’ minds how Raos carried Barcelona and scored the last-minute equalizer. He also made a mark in 2016 with a memorable goal and that makes him a shoo-in to this Amazon XI.
At Left Back, Paolo Maldini may not have championships to boast but he is no doubt the best defender to play football. He played for Milan in his entire career that spanned from 1984 to 2009.
No arguments as Amazon puts Lionel Messi as the Right Midfielder. This Argentinian sensation led Barcelona to four championships in the last decade and he is arguably known as the best footballer of all time. Messi also holds 155 goals and is the second-highest scorer of all time.
Center Midfielder is Paul Scholes but the argument here is that Zinedine Zidane, Clarence Seedorf, Andrea Pirlo and Steven Gerrard could be considered for the position. Scholes has played in Manchester United for almost his entire career from 1993 to 2013. He briefly came out of retirement five years after playing for Royton Town. Prior to retiring, Scholes had two championships in the Champions League.
More Players to Look Out For
Xavi made the cut as well as the Center Midfielder. He has played for Barcelona from 1998 to 2015 and had four Champions League titles in his career resume. He also had 30 assists and is hailed as the fight most creative player in history and just 10 assists behind the leader.
Highlights of Xavi controlling the ball has become a YouTube go-to video and has been one of the youth influences in the playing field on how to put the ball close to your feet.
Playing at Left Midfielder, Raul of Real Madrid is chosen by Amazon. He has three championships from 1997 to 2002. Raul has been the team’s face from 1994-2010 before transferring to different teams. Right now, he is the team manager of Real Madrid’s youth team.
Messi and Ronaldo have the higher goal tally over Raul with 71 and at a time considered the best in the world on what he does.
The Center Attacking Midfielder is Andres Iniesta of Barcelona who has been one of the biggest factors of Barcelona’s success for the past two decades. He has experienced four Champions League championships and has an established name as one of the best midfielders to ever put on football shoes.
There is no doubt that Cristiano Ronaldo will be put at striker. Having debating who is the best player of all time between him and Lionel Messi, it all gets cut in between if you just have to talk about the Champions League. In his career, Ronaldo has won five Champions League titles, one in Manchester United and four in Real Madrid. He also holds the league record of 130 strikes and that gives him the edge over Messi.
This Amazon selection has sparked a debate over Sportsbook and the internet as it left out some names that could be included which were Neymar, Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Muller and Kylian Mbappe.
Unpopular inclusions include that Paolo Maldini of AC Milan is at Left-Back can also be replaced by Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane or Raul.
