St. Louis Blues vs Colorado Avalanche 08/02/2020 Betting Odds:
St. Louis Blues
St. Louis Blues are the second-best team overall and the top team in the West when the NHL decided to suspend the season in March due to COVID-19. Although secured of a playoff berth entering the round-robin tournament, the defending Stanley Cup Champions will still have to battle through a grueling road before chasing the repeat. Taking on the Avalanche is a perfect acid test. After all, Colorado has presented itself as St. Louis’ top conference adversary, lurking behind by just two points in the standings.
Players to watch: David Perron (GP 71, G 25, A 35, PTS 60), Ryan O’Reilly (GP 71 G 12, A 49, PTS 61), Brayden Schenn (GP 71, G 25, A 33 , PTS 58).
Colorado will gear up with the same mentality as the St. Louis in their bubble debut. Although playing with basically nothing to lose, the Avalanche will have to battle themselves as they aim to have the right mindset when the first round of the playoffs begins. Head coach Jared Bednar utilized the tune-up match against Minnesota in testing his rotation. The Avalanche won the exhibition, 3-2, but the tactician would expect more from his squad as they play their first official match since the break.
Players to watch: Nathan MacKinnon (GP 69, G 35, A 58, PTS 93), Cale Makar (GP 57, G 12, A 38, PTS 50), Andre Burakovsky (GP 58, G 20, A 25, PTS 45).
St. Louis Blues vs Colorado Avalanche Betting Predictions
Blues are 7-0 in their last 7 vs. Western Conference.
Colorado is 6-1 in their last 7 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game.
Blues vs Avalanche Betting Picks
There will be no room for complacency from both squads so expect a grind-out battle on the ice. However, the Blues will be a little too eager in their return and it will lead to the Avalanche going for the jugular to notch their win on the seeding tournament. Expect a high scoring affair with Colorado’s composure prevailing over the defending Stanley Cup Champions.
Score Prediction: Blues 3, Avalanche 5.
