In their last two Stanley Cup appearances, the Penguins have been able to come out on top each time. Granted, they lost one in 2009, at the hands of the Detroit Red Wings. Nonetheless, there are a myriad of differences between Nashville and Detroit’s franchises.
Pittsburgh finished the regular season with a 50-21 record that gave way to a 2nd place finish in the Metropolitan Division, and a 2nd place finish in the Eastern Conference as well. The Penguins had to beat the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Washington Capitals, and the Ottawa Senators to get their invite to the Finals.
The Predators are one of the youngest franchises in the NHL, but that isn’t stopping them from rising to the cream of the crop. Nashville has made three straight postseason appearances, and now they’ll be looking to make their first trip to the NHL Finals as eventful as possible.
The Predators turned in a 41-29-12 record this season, which landed them as the 4th best team in the Central Division, and the 8th best in the Western Conference. Seeing Nashville make a Stanley Cup appearance proves that a Wild Card team can make it all the way to the Finals.
