Pittsburgh Penguins

Nothing is more exhausting and frustrating than playing in two overtime periods just to fall short at the end game. The Pittsburgh Penguins engaged and traded punches with the Islanders in the highly intense Game 5, but it was the latter who prevailed and moved a win away from entering the next round. It was the second straight loss in the series for Pittsburgh after the team took a 2-1 lead by virtue of a 5-4 win last Thursday. New York responded well since and will now have the chance to finish them off. The Penguins expect a hostile environment in Game 6 with more Islanders fans permitted to enter the arena. But do-or-die games are meant to possess the highest of pressures, and the Penguins will just have to come through in hopes to force Game 7 in Pittsburgh.

Players to watch: K. Letang D (G 1 A 4 PTS 5), J. Carter C (G 3 A 1 PTS 4), E. Malkin C (G 1 A 2 PTS 3).

New York Islanders

Josh Bailey’s heroics in the clutch rescued the Islanders from being placed at the brink of elimination. Instead, the team is in an ideal position to close out the series in front of its home fans. Failing to even lead in regulation, it was apparent that New York was not supposed to win that game. But the team’s resiliency has kept them in step with the Penguins and eventually served them the crucial victory. The Islanders took advantage of Pittsburgh’s lapses late in the second overtime. In particular, Bailey picked off the turnover from Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry, setting him up for the game-winner. New York is in a good position heading to Wednesday’s game, but they also know the Penguins will come in with a deeper sense of urgency. It is a must-win situation for the Islanders as allowing the Penguins to tie the series will give the latter the momentum for the winner-take-all Game 7.

Players to watch: J. Pageau C (G 1 A 4 PTS 5), A. Beauvillier LW (G 2 A 2 PTS 4), J. Bailey C (G 3 A 1 PTS 4).

Penguins vs Islanders Betting Picks

The best two words in sports: Game Seven. The Penguins are about to silence the crowd inside the Nassau Coliseum as the team is set to force Game 7 against the Islanders. After absorbing a painful loss on Monday and being pushed on the verge of elimination, Pittsburgh does not have a choice but to unleash its most lethal trick to extend its season. Despite trailing in the series, the Penguins are given a rather shorter price by the top betting sites for NHL for a team playing away from home. Perhaps the sportsbooks know what the team is capable of doing, and it will surely manifest on Wednesday.

Score Prediction: Penguins 4, Islanders 2.
