Hockey Betting Odds and Preview - Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Anaheim Ducks – Wednesday, January 17th

After the Pittsburgh Penguins won back-to-back titles last season, teaser sports betting fans wanted to know what chance the Penguins had of making it a three-peat. The NHL hockey odds weren’t giving the Guins much of a shot, but Pittsburgh fans still held hope. But from what we’ve seen out the Penguins this season, there’s not much to suggest this team is title-bound, let alone playoff bound. Will the reigning champions be able to change our minds in this evening’s Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Anaheim Ducks matchup?

Pittsburgh Penguins

The Penguins enter this evening’s pairing sporting a 24-19-3 record which grants their franchise 51 points on the season. With that tally, Pittsburgh finds themselves tied for 4th place in the Metropolitan with the New York Rangers. At the present time, the Penguins are 8-points behind the division leading Washington Capitals and 2-points behind the 3rd-place Columbus Blue Jackets. With this in mind, it’s clear that Pittsburgh is still very much in the playoff race. However, online sportsbooks would like to see better consistency out of Pittsburgh before pegging them as one of this year’s title favorites. Especially considering just how competitive the NHL is this season. The Guins are 4-1 in their last 5 games, but that hasn’t stopped the NHL hockey odds from pegging them as an underdog in this evening’s Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Anaheim Ducks match.

Looking over both of these teams’ numbers, it’s pretty clear that they match up rather well. Anaheim comes in with the better defense, as they’re ranked 7th in the league in goals allowed per game and 6th in penalty kill percentage. But on the other hand, the Penguins’ have the superior offense. Specifically, Pittsburgh ranks 15th in the league in scoring but No. 1 overall in power play percentage. Guess we’ll have to see where the chips fall this evening.

Anaheim Ducks

The Ducks swim into this Wednesday night pairing flashing a 20-16-9 record that ranks them 5th in the Pacific Division. Anaheim has racked up 49 points in this year’s season, which places them a whopping 12-points behind the division leading Golden Knights. Additionally, the Ducks are 5-points behind the 3rd place Calgary Flames. In short, the Ducks can still keep their playoff appearance streak alive at the end of the season, but they’ll need to be more consistent. And since the Ducks are 2-3 in their last 5, there’s no reason to expect them to be. But since they’re pegged as the favorites this evening, should teaser sports betting players place action on Anaheim?

Considering the odds available on the Penguins, there’s no reason to take them on the road this evening. But if you want to shy away from the money line, you might want to consider taking the Ducks on the spread. Since Anaheim is 26-19 ATS this season, there’s good reason to suspect that they’ll cover the spread this evening.
