Washington Capitals

Coming off a highly successful season, the Capitals had no problem matching last year’s success. Washington finished the regular season with a 55-19-8 record that gave way to a 1st place finish in the Metropolitan Division as well as a 1st place finish in the Eastern Conference. The Capitals have made the playoffs for the last three years consecutively but hasn’t advanced past the second round in the last three years either. Interestingly enough, the Penguins have eliminated Washington the last two playoff seasons.

In the first round of this year’s playoffs, Washington faced the Toronto Maple Leafs. Toronto was a huge challenge, but the Capitals were able to overcome their Canadian rival 4 games to 2. Thursday’s game will mark the first of the series and hockey betting sites think that Washington will walk away with it. The Capitals and Penguins faced each other 4 times this season and finished 2-2 overall in the regular season.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh entered this year’s season as the reigning Stanley Cup champions and has done their best to defend their honor. The Penguins finished the regular season with a 50-21 that paved the way to a 2nd place finish in the Metropolitan Division and a 2nd place finish in the Eastern Conference. The Penguins have been in the playoffs the last 11 years consecutively and have won two Cups in that time. They may enter this contest as online NHL betting underdogs, but you can’t rule out the reigning champions.
