Online NHL Betting Favoring Caps Over Penguins
Posted by: Mike Davis
The reigning online NHL betting champions have been doing their best so far this season. After starting the year off with two consecutive losses, the Penguins finally managed to bounce back this past Saturday when they manhandled the Nashville Predators 4-0. Now, at 1-1-1, Pittsburgh has plenty of room to cover if they are to be a leader in the Metropolitan division. This Wednesday night, the Penguins will travel to the nation’s capital to take on the Capitals. What are NHL sportsbooks predicting will happen in the next chapter of this awesome rivalry?
Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Washington Capitals – Wednesday, October 11th
When: 7:30 pm ET
Where: Verizon Center, Washington, D.C.
Stream: NBC Extra, NHL TV
Online NHL Betting Lines:
Pittsburgh Penguins +1 ½ (-260) 6 (-105) +110
Washington Capitals -1 ½ (+220) 6 (-115) -130
With their 1-1-1 record, the Penguins are sitting on 3 points for the season. That tally ranks the franchise penultimate in the Metropolitan Division. The online NHL betting odds are predicting another loss for the Penguins, which isn’t all that surprising considering that the Capitals are currently the division leaders.
The fact that the Penguins are coming off two consecutive titles does not play in their favor. The NHL season is extremely grueling and making the playoffs extends that season substantially – especially if you make it all the way to the championship series. The fact that Pittsburgh has done that twice in a row means that this team is literally running on fumes. And we’ve seen what that fatigue has done to the reigning champs since they opened the season with consecutive losses. Maybe the Penguins can catch their breath as the season drags on but players who bet NHL online can expect to see a tired squad get beaten by the tough Capitals this evening.
The Capitals ride into this Wednesday night matchup sporting a 2-0-1 record that yields the franchise 5 points on the year. That tally gives Washington the lead in the Metropolitan Division, placing them 1 point ahead of three teams; the New Jersey Devils, Columbus Blue Jackets and Philadelphia Flyers all of whom are sitting on 4 points on the year. Washington is coming off a tough 4-3 Monday night overtime loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning and will be looking to take out their frustration on the Penguins tonight.
Washington is coming off a 55-19-8 that saw the franchise finish 1st in both the Metropolitan Division as well as the Eastern Conference. Once in the playoffs, the Capitals would eliminate the Toronto Maple Leafs in the First Round 4 games to 2. Afterwards, Washington would be eliminated themselves by the eventual NHL champions 4 games to 3. It was a tough series and one of the best from last year’s playoffs. Now with an opportunity to avenge that loss, the Caps will be looking to pick apart the tired and aching Penguins.
