The NHL season is in full swing and online NHL betting fans can hardly contain their excitement as the games roll on and the winnings keep stacking. Now that we’ve gotten the first look at how teams are performing after a long offseason, fans can begin to see which teams are worth wagering on. One matchup that should shed some light on that dilemma is the contest between the Detroit Red Wings and the Nashville Predators.
The Nashville Predators will be traveling to the Motor City to take on the Detroit Red Wings on Friday, October 21st. This will be the first time these two teams face each other this season. Detroit will be coming in hot after beating the New York Rangers this past Wednesday, while the Predators will be trying to rebound after losing to the Dallas Stars this past Tuesday. After that loss the Predators fell to 1-2, while the Red Wings advanced to 2-2. Will most hockey betting sites side with the team with the better record? Or will Nashville receive some love from the odds?
NHL Odds – Friday, October 21st (Early Betting Preview Lines Are Subject to Change)
Predators -1½ (+250) 5½ (+130) -120
Red Wings +1½ (-300) 5½ (-150) EV
Keeping in line with the routine, the online NHL betting odds have favored the squad with the better record. Last season the Detroit Red Wings enjoyed a moderate amount of success. They finished with a 41-30-11 record and even qualified for the postseason. However, they lost within the first round of the Eastern Conference Finals, so the season didn’t have the happiest of endings. However, their postseason finish marked the 25th straight season in which the Red Wings qualified for the playoffs. There’s no denying Detroit has enjoyed a rich hockey history and the Red Wings will be looking to make it 26 straight playoff finishes.
Detroit started the season on a low-note when they fell to the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-4. The woes would continue in the Red Wings next game when they lost to the Florida Panthers 4-1. After a disappointing start, Detroit was quick to rebound and won two straight games against the Ottawa Senators, as well as the New York Rangers. Will the Red Wings be able to keep the winning streak alive?
The Predators certainly hope not as they are trying to at least reach the .500 mark. The Predators are a relatively young franchise (not as young as Las Vegas though) and this season will mark the club’s 19th year. In 2015 the Predators finished with a 41-27-14 and even qualified for the postseason. Once in the playoffs, Nashville advanced to the second round of the Western Conference where they were bested by the San Jose Sharks.
Entering the season, the Predators had high hopes for continuing their success. In their debut Nashville beat the Blackhawks 3-2, but Chicago wouldn’t have to wait long to get their revenge as they beat the Predators the following day 5-3. In their next game the Predators lost to the Stars 2-1. Will they be able to bounce back against the Red Wings? The online NHL betting odds don’t seem to think so but anything is possible.
