Will Seattle Be Receiving Another NFL Betting Upset?
The Carolina Panthers are not good at finding success the year after a Super Bowl appearance. In 2003 Carolina made it all the way to the Super Bowl just to lose to the New England Patriots 29-32. NFL sportsbook fans will remember that the following year the Panthers posted a 7-9 record, a long ways off from making the playoffs and even further from repeating in the Super Bowl. Last season, behind Cam Newton’s jaw-dropping talents, the Panthers were the best team in the NFL during the regular season, and rightly so earned a chance to compete for the Vince Lombardi trophy. However, they would lose in devastating fashion to the Denver Broncos. But all was not lost, at least at the time, because the online football betting odds predicted that Carolina would once again win the NFC and get a chance to win the Super Bowl. Ultimately, that prediction couldn’t have been further from the truth as the Panthers have struggled to earn a 4-7 record and are currently last in the NFC South.
In Week 13 the Panthers will try and scrape by a win against the Seattle Seahawks. At the start of the season both teams were sportsbook favorites to win the NFC, yet neither team has lived up to their preseason expectations. With that in mind, let’s see what the sports line betting odds have to say about this contest.
NFL Odds – Week 13 – Sunday, December 4th
Carolina Panthers +7 (-115) 44 (-110) +230
Seattle Seahawks -7 (-105) 44 (-110) -290
Even though the Seahawks haven’t quite lived up to their hype, they are still 7-3-1 and are leading the NFC West. So it makes perfect sense to see the online football betting odds favor them so heavily. However, last weekend the odds were also backing the Seahawks in their game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In the end, Seattle ended up getting upset 14-5. Throughout the season the Seahawks have been favorites but there have been times when relatively weak teams have upset Seattle; both the Rams and Saints upset Seattle earlier in the year. In the games against the Rams Seattle lost 9-3, and against the Saints the lost 25-20. In all three of those losses it was Seattle’s offense that cost them the game. Will Seattle’s offense struggle once again this Sunday?
Considering that the Panthers are 29th against the pass, one would be inclined to believe that Russell Wilson and company should have no problem scoring against Carolina. However, the Saints have a terrible pass defense as well as the Bucs, and in those contests Wilson didn’t have a standout performance. If the Panthers defense can hold Seattle to under 10 points – which has been accomplished before, Carolina should have no difficulty delivering an online football betting upset.
