Texans vs. Chargers NFL Betting Preview ( Updated Odds)
Posted by: Charlie Smith
At the onset of the season, both the Texans and Chargers were tabbed as top playoff contenders. Los Angeles stubbed their toe at Detroit last week which served to irritate fans and gamblers. But the Chargers remain the top pro football betting. Alternative to Kansas City in the AFC West. Houston has struggled early on to get the money. After blowing a sure win at New Orleans they barely hung on in their week two home opener. Of great concern is that the Texans have not excelled on either side of the line. Defense and finishing drives have harmed LA.
Houston Texans Vs. Los Angeles Chargers
To begin with, the Texans are 1-1 both straight up and against the spread with 1-1 on totals. Houston failed to cover a 13-12 home win over Jacksonville last week as 7.5-point overlays. NFL metrics are a portrait of mediocrity for the Texans. To show Houston ranks 21st for total offense and 16th for scoring. Defensively the Texans are 23rd in the league and 16th for points allowed. On the positive quarterback, Deshaun Watson has shown well more often than not. But the Texans need more as far as finishing drives.
Players to Watch: QB Deshaun Watson (61%, 427 YDS, 7.2 YPC, 3 TD, 1 INT, 93.0 RTG, 8 RSH, 45 YDS, 5.6 YPC, 2 TD), RB Carlos Hyde (30 RSH, 173 YDS, 5.8 YPC, 0 TD), RB Duke Johnson Jr (15 RSH, 88 YDS, 5.9 YPC, 0 TD, 4 REC, 33 YDS, 8.3 YPC, 0 TD), WR DeAndre Hopkins (13 REC, 151 YDS, 11.6 YPC, 2 TD), WR Will Fuller V (6 REC, 109 YDS, 0 TD), WR Kenny Stills (5 REC, 75 YDS, 15.0 YPC, 1 TD)
Los Angeles Chargers
Last week the Chargers suffered an ugly 13-10 loss at Detroit. It was the type of setback that can’t be afforded when in the same division as the Chiefs. LA was one-point chalk in the loss. In like manner to the Texans, LA has struggled to finish drives. Consider the Chargers rank fourth in the NFL for total offense but 18th for points scored. Likewise, the defense ranks 17th for total defense.
Players to Watch: QB Philip Rivers (65% COMP, 626 YDS, 8.9 AVG, 3 TD, 2 INT, 5 SACK, 96.5 RTG), RB Austin Ekeler (29 RSH, 124 YDS, 4.3 YPC, 2 TD, 12 REC, 163 YDS, 13.6 YPC, 2 TD), RB Justin Jackson (13 YDS, 116 YDS, 8.9 YPC, 0 TD), WR Keenan Allen (16 REC, 221 YDS, 13.8 YPC, 1 TD), WR Mike Williams (5 REC, 112 YDS, 22.4 YPC, 0 TD), TE Hunter Henry (4 REC, 60 YDS, 15.0 YPC, 0 TD)
