Seattle Seahawks vs Atlanta Falcons 10/27/2019
The Seahawks are coming from a stinging defeat against the Baltimore Ravens. They concluded the previous matchup with a 30-16 scoreboard. The players were simply not in their element when they stepped on the field. QB Russell Wilson was already an indicator that the team was not revved up. He went 20/41 for 241 air yards and managed to connect 1 TD. This would have been an impressive figure. However, he should have been able to connect more TDs with that yardage. Chris Carson took the lead role in rushing. He ran with the ball 21 times but was unable to reap a single touchdown.
Tyler Lockett caught the ball 5 times for 61 yards, but that was too minimal an effort to make an impact on the game. Seattle Seahawks were rock-solid in its defense, limiting the opponent to only 45% completion rate on throws. The team surrendered a total of 340 yards and were out-run by the opposing team, which had 35 runs. The Seahawks are average in a lot of things, enabling them to adjust to their current matchup and always keep opponents on edge. However, once their tactic has been figured out or repeated, it’s all over. The Seahawks need more solid coaching to win.

The Atlanta Falcons are also emerging from a recent loss to the Los Angeles Rams. They were only able to score a measly 10 points versus their opponent’s 37. Matt Ryan, the dashing QB, did his best with 16/27. He ended the game with 159 air yards, but was not able to score a touchdown in this manner. His runner, Devonta Freeman, was likewise unable to score a touchdown. He only carried the ball 19 times, a strong indicator that the Falcons had difficulty getting through their opponent’s defenses. Julio Jones had low statistics, receiving only 93 yards via 6 catches.
The Falcons, to their credit, tried a variety of tactics. The Falcons tried rushing, but it only worked for them 15 times. They also tried racking up first-downs, but they only got 14 total. They tried playing strong defense but were unable to choke down their opponent’s defense.
The Falcons are doubtlessly on a rut. They need to spread their wings and fly on a tactic that works best for their team. Adaptability is good, but sometimes being highly specialized in a certain tactic has more benefits.
