Seahawks will try to shoot down the Falcons

After losing their 2016 debut to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Atlanta Falcons did a 180 and have established themselves as the best offensive team in all of football. The online football betting community wasn’t expecting such a majestic turnaround, and a big part of it can be attributed to Atlanta’s quarterback. Matt Ryan has been doing a great job of leading the Falcons offense and his performances through the first 5 weeks of the season has put Ryan at the forefront of the MVP discussion. Right now Ryan leads the NFL with over 1,700 yards through the air, which means that he’s currently averaging 348 passing yards per game. If Ryan can keep that average up for the rest of the season, he’ll come close to tying Peyton Manning’s record for most passing yards in a season (5,477).
Thanks to Ryan’s jaw-dropping performances through the first quarter of the season, the Falcons passing game ranks #1 in the NFL. But backing up that elite passing game is the league’s 7th best running game. Trying to stop one of the league’s best quarterbacks at the top of his game is hard enough, but trying to stop that and a good running game is practically impossible. Unfortunately for the Seahawks, that is exactly what their defense will be tasked with this Sunday. Fortunately for Seattle, their defense isn’t half bad. But will that be enough for football betting sites to favor Seattle over the NFL’s best offense?
Week 6 – Sunday the 16th of October
Falcons +6 (-110) 46 (-110)
The odds-makers have made their decision and interestingly enough, the online football betting odds have decided to side with the Seahawks. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that Seattle is coming off a Bye Week, or perhaps it has more to do with how fearsome Seattle’s defense has been. Looking at the current standings, Seattle’s defense ranks 1st in total defense, 2nd in pass defense, and 7th against the run. Points wise the Seahawks are only giving up 13.5 points per game, the 3rd best average in the NFL. While the Seahawks defense deserves every bit of the credit, it should be noted that Seattle’s defense hasn’t really faced any elite opposition. So far they’ve faced the Dolphins, the Rams, the 49ers, and the Jets. So although they rank near the top of the league, their biggest test is coming this Sunday.
The odds certainly think that the Seahawks’ defense can get it done, and this matchup will be one of the most interesting in Week 6. Luckily enough for the Seahawks, the Falcons defense isn’t nearly as impressive as their offense. However, the same thing could be said about the Seahawks offense; they’re nowhere near as impressive as their defense. So, this Sunday’s contest will pair one of the league’s best offenses against one of the league’s best defenses, as well as a mediocre offense against a mediocre defense. Basically, both of these teams are evenly matched on both sides of the ball, despite the lopsided online football betting odds.
