Raiders Keep on Winning
Posted by: Mike Davis
With their win against the Houston Texans this past Monday night, the Oakland Raiders once again proved the NFL sportsbook odds right and once again took the lead within the AFC West. Although they were the favorites, the Raiders didn’t fail to surprise Monday Night Football fans. On paper Oakland has one of the worst defenses in the league. Yet time and time again the Raiders’ defense makes crucial game-winning stops. With last Monday’s win Oakland advances to 8-2 and has earned a 1-game lead in the division. They’ll be looking to expand on that lead this upcoming Sunday when they face off against the Carolina Panthers. What to the sportsbook NFL odds have to say about the matchup between Oakland and Carolina?
NFL Odds – Week 12 – Sunday, November 27th
Oakland Raiders -4 (-110) 48 (-110)
Since the Raiders have taken the NFL by storm, NFL sportsbooks have had no choice but to start favoring Oakland. However, the Panthers hopes for the playoffs hinge on how they perform in their next two games. With that sort of motivation, fans can expect the Panthers to bring their best. But at 4-6, does Carolina actually have a chance of stopping the NFL’s biggest 2016 surprise?
The Panthers have the talent to get the job done on offense, but their defense might not be able to deter Derek Carr. To be perfectly honest, very few defenses could actually slow down the young star. Heading into Week 12, Carr has thrown for 2,800 yards, 20 touchdowns and just 4 interceptions. That touchdown-to-interception ratio is of an MVP caliper, and with a 100.6 passer rating Carr has thrust himself to the forefront of the MVP discussion. Carr has already proven himself against some of the best secondaries in the league and hasn’t run into any issues yet. Considering that the Panthers have the 27th worst pass defense in the league, NFL sportsbook fans might want to side with the odds on this one.
The Panthers don’t have a legitimate chance of stopping the Raiders offense. We’re more than halfway through the season and better teams haven’t been able to accomplish the same task. The Panthers’ best chance of winning lies in trying to outscore the Raiders. However, considering how inefficient the Panthers offense has been this season, it’s not likely that they’ll be able to accomplish that. Cam Newton is the reigning MVP, but the considerable drop in his play has resulted in the Panthers’ having the 20th worst passing offense in the league. There’s no denying the fact that Oakland has a pretty shoddy defense, but they still have plenty of athletes looking to make plays each and every down. The Panthers will be heading into this contest with a -5 turnover ratio, and it’s more than likely that the Raiders will force a few this Sunday. A good football betting tip for the future; don’t bet against Oakland.
