The Eagles fly into this weekend’s action sporting a weak 2-3 record. Considering they enter this year’s action as the reigning Super Bowl champions, Philadelphia was expecting a better start to the 2018 season. So far they’ve failed to live up to expectations in some crucial matchups. In Week 2 the Eagles defense failed to contain Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Bucs, conceding a 27-21 loss to Tampa Bay. Two weeks later, the Eagles lost a tough contest to the Titans 26-23. And following that loss, the Eagles were unable to rebound against Minnesota, losing 23-21 to the Vikings. Now the Eagles have inched closer to panic mode and truly need a strong win over the Giants to scrape the season. If the Eagles lost this Thursday night, their season might as well be over. Luckily they’ll be going up against a New York team that is without a strong quarterback. As long as the Eagles can deter Barkley and contain OBJ, they should come out on top this week.
Players to Watch: Carson Wentz (914 passing yards, 5 TD, 1 INT), Jay Ajayi (184 rushing yards, 3 TD, 1 F), and Zach Ertz (437 receiving yards, 1 TD, 41 REC).
New York Giants
The Giants tumble into this NFC East matchup sporting a pitiful 1-4 record that ranks them as the worst team in the division. Coming off a weak season, New York was hoping they could find some measure of success in 2018. So far it’s been nothing but drama out of Big Blue, with Beckham continually throwing not so subtle shade at his organization. According to OBJ, one of the most dynamic receivers in the NFL, the Giants are not giving him an opportunity to excel. Naturally this falls on the quarterback, who should seriously be considering retirement. Eli Manning has shone in the past but has never been a consistent quarterback. And with the Giants having one of the worst offensive lines in football, this is a terrible situation for the younger Manning brother. Look for Philadelphia to take advantage of the Giants’ ailing O-line this Thursday.
Players to Watch: Eli Manning (1,381 passing yards, 6 TD, 3 INT), Saquon Barkley (308 rushing yards, 3 TD, 0 F), and Odell Beckham Jr. (462 receiving yards, 1 TD, 39 REC).
