Kansas City Chiefs

In 2016, the Kansas City Chiefs valiantly fought their way to a 12-4 record that rightfully won the AFC West for the franchise. The Chiefs were afforded a 1st round bye in the postseason but it didn’t help out too much, considering that Kansas City was eliminated in the divisional round by the Pittsburgh Steelers 16-18.

The Chiefs have now qualified for the playoffs 2 years in a row. To help make it three in a row, Kansas City brought in a total of 12 players during free agency and they also resigned safety Eric Berry – who is listed as 42nd best player in the league by the NFL. Additionally, the Chiefs had 6 picks in this past draft which got ended up slit evenly with 3 defenders and 3 offensive players. Most notable amongst these selections is quarterback Patrick Mahomes II out of Texas Tech, chosen 10th overall in the draft.

Right now the Chiefs aren’t planning on starting Mahomes this season, or at least early on. Alex Smith will retain his position as the starter, but there’s no question Kansas City is looking to develop Mahomes into the starter. Smith is decent but he’s not going to win you a Super Bowl.

New England Patriots

Once again, the Patriots are the team to beat not just in the AFC East but in the entire NFL. The Pats finished the 2016 season with a 14-2 record that once again exemplified their dominance. New England won the East and cruised all the way to the Super Bowl before proceeding to amaze us once again by delivering the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history. Heading into the 2017 online NFL betting season, NFL sportsbooks have the Pats pegged as favorites to win the division, the conference as well as the Super Bowl.

This past offseason New England lost 7 players to free agency, including tight end Martellus Bennett. However, they cut their losses by re-signing 6 players and picking up 15 free agents themselves. New England once again displayed the magic that has helped this organization at the top for so long in this past draft when they had but 4 selections to make – none of which were their assigned picks. The franchise had traded away all their draft picks to acquire several players including; tight end Dwayne Allen from the Colts and defensive end Kony Ealy from Carolina.
