Patriots Proving the Sportsbooks Right Once Again

Jets vs Patriots NFL Week 16 Betting

The New England Patriots started the season as one of the sportsbook favorites to win the Super Bowl. Only the Green Bay Packers had better odds of winning the Vince Lombardi trophy this year, and now that we’ve 15 weeks down the line it’s clear who currently has a better chance of winning it all; Bill Belichick’s squad. The Patriots have been the winners of the AFC East for the last 8 years running and this year they’ve already clinched a playoff berth, clinched their division, and have clinched a first round bye in the playoffs. It may sound like the only thing the Patriots have to work towards is the Super Bowl, but considering how deadly Brady and company are in Foxborough during the postseason, this upcoming weekend New England will have their eyes on clinching the heavily coveted playoff home field advantage.

Luckily enough for the Patriots, New England will be facing a 4-10 team this Saturday. However, that 4-10 team is their AFC East rivals, the New York Jets. In Week 16 the Pats will be welcoming the Jets into Foxborough to face off at Gillette Stadium. Divisional matchups can often be a coin toss but you can be certain that the online NFL gambling odds will be favoring the Patriots this Saturday.

NFL Odds – Week 16 – Saturday, December 24th

New York Jets +16½ (-110) 44 (-105)
New England Patriots -16½ (-110) 44 (-115)

To say that the sportsbooks are predicting a New England blowout would be a vast euphemism. The Patriots have been favorites all season long and have only failed to live up to the hype twice; once against the Seattle Seahawks and once against the Buffalo Bills (New England was without Brady in the game against the Bills). Tom Brady has delivered another phenomenal season, which is even more impressive when considering the veteran quarterback is flirting with 40. Brady is certainly in the MVP discussion, but since the Pats went 3-1 without him it’s hard to argue that he is as valuable to New England as say Derek Carr is to the Raiders. Regardless, fans can expect Brady to deliver another breathtaking performance against New York’s ailing secondary.

New York will be coming into this contest with the 21st worst pass defense, the 14th worst rushing defense, and the 17th worst total defense. Since the Patriots have the 7th best rushing offense, the 4th best passing offense, and the 4th best total offense, it seems all too obvious that New England will indeed be delivering a blowout this Saturday. This contest will mark the second time these two have faced each other this season with New England emerging victorious in their first contest 22-17. The Jets don’t have much to play for this Sunday, since they already have 10 losses on the season there’s no hope for making 2016 a winning year. The best the Jets can do is try to delay the Patriots from clinching home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The sportsbooks don’t think New York can do it and in the end the Jets will just be another small stepping block on the Patriots way to the Super Bowl.
