Panthers Vie to Open 2017 NFL Betting Season with a Bang

The 2016 online NFL betting season kicks off this Thursday. However, football betting sportsbook fanatics who aren’t looking to bet on either Kansas City or New England in Week 1 will have to find another betting opportunity for this weekend. Possibly even this Sunday’s matchup between the Carolina Panthers and the San Francisco 49ers. Let’s take a look at what kind of action is available for players who bet on NFL games.
Carolina Panthers vs. San Francisco 49ers – Sunday, September 10th
When: 4:25 pm ET
Where: Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara
Stream: Fox Sports Go, NFL Game Pass
Online NFL Betting Odds:
Carolina Panthers -5 ½ (-110) 48 (-105) -245
San Francisco 49ers +5 ½ (-110) 48 (-115) +205
After suffering an embarrassing Super Bowl loss, the Panthers were unable to bounce back in 2016. Instead, the organization slipped to 6-10 and dead last in the division. While it’s easy to put most of the blame of the lackluster season on the shoulders of the front office, who allowed key defenders to slip away during the offseason leaving Carolina’s secondary rather gutted, the truth is that the offense wasn’t even a shadow of its former self. Uncertainty surrounds the Panthers as they head into this upcoming season. No one is really sure which team we’ll get; the Super Bowl contenders or the team that ranks last in the division.
As of now, football betting sportsbooks have the Panthers finishing ahead of both the Saints and the Bucs in the division but falling short against the Falcons. Carolina certainly has the talent to finish that high, but last season’s results aren’t convincing many online NFL betting players to take a shot on the Panthers.
San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers 2016 season focused mostly on Colin Kaepernick and his plight to bring awareness to inequality within the nation. But the reason San Fran’s season focused entirely on this issue was not because of Kaepernick’s anthem protests but rather the organization’s inability to deliver any worthwhile results on the gridiron. While many will chalk this up to distractions caused by their former quarterback, the fact that Kaepernick is no longer with the organization removes this excuse from the equation. Now we’ll get to see what the 49ers can do without any controversy but in all honesty, we’re not expecting much.
The online NFL betting odds aren’t either considering that they have San Fran finishing last in the NFC West. In this past preseason, the 49ers fought valiantly to secure a 2-2 record. In the final game of the preseason, the 49ers faced the San Diego Chargers and although they won, they didn’t look that great.
Granted, starting quarterback Brian Hoyer didn’t see much his play. In his place, backups Nick Mullens and CJ Beathard got plenty of playing time. But with both quarterbacks posting sun-65.0 passer ratings, it’s safe to say that Hoyer’s starting position is safe.
