Online NFL Betting’s Battle of the Birds
Posted by: Mariela Miranda
Online NFL betting fans may go back and forth on this, but a good majority would agree that the NFC East is one of the toughest divisions in professional football. Additionally, most online sportsbook players were leaning towards either the Giants or the Cowboys to win the division since both teams punched their ticket to the playoffs last season.
However, we’ve seen the opposite unfold. The Philadelphia Eagles are currently leading the division with their 3-1 record. Behind them, the Cowboys and Washington are both tied at 2-2 while the New York Giants lockdown the final slot of the season – thanks to their pitiful 0-4 record. Nonetheless, things could get flipped upside down in the division real quick. So if the Eagles want to remain No. 1, they’ll win the battle of the birds this upcoming Sunday.
Arizona Cardinals vs. Philadelphia Eagles – Sunday, October 8th
When: 1:00 pm ET
Where: Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia
Stream: Fox Sports Go, Watch ESPN
Online NFL Betting Odds:
Arizona Cardinals +6 (-105) 45 ½ (-110)
Philadelphia Eagles -6 (-115) 45 ½ (-110)
The Cardinals glide into this Week 5 matchup sporting a 2-2 record which ties them with the Seattle Seahawks for 2nd place in the division. Much to everyone’s surprise, the Rams are actually leading the NFC West at the moment, but I guess that’s just what happens when your franchise finally decides to give Jeff Fisher the boot.
The Cardinals are the obvious betting NFL underdog in this contest. Arizona was known for their defense last season but they haven’t been quite as foreboding this year. Right now the Cards rank 7th in total defense, 12th against the pass, and 10th against the run. Those are some pretty noteworthy figures but the fact that Arizona ranks 20th in terms of points allowed essentially negates those stats. Arizona’s offense is 22nd in scoring, so there’s no use picking the Cards straight up this weekend.
The Eagles fly into this matchup sporting a 3-1 record that ranks them as the best team from the East. Philadelphia comes into this matchup wielding a 2 game win streak after picking up back to back victories over divisional rivals, the New York Giants, as well as the Los Angeles Chargers. Both games ended up coming down to the final seconds of the contest but the fact that the Birds were able to come out on top proves that this is a tough football team that simply will not quit.
The Dirty Birds are currently putting up 25.8 points per game, which vastly eclipses the 18.5 that Arizona is averaging. Defensively Philadelphia usually gives up 23.0 so we’ll have to see what Carson Palmer and company can do against Pederson’s defense.
The money line has yet to come out for this game, but considering the 6-point prediction on the spread line, online sportsbook players can expect the money line to heavily favor the Eagles. With that in mind, fans can cash in on better value by sticking to the spread.
