Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers are coming off a season in which they were one game away from competing for the Vince Lombardi trophy. Unfortunately, a defense that had held them back all season long was the final nail in the coffin. Green Bay was 10-6 during the regular season.

To help address their issues in the secondary, the organization snagged Kevin King with their first pick of the draft. King was one of the most notable defensive backs in the draft, who stuck out because of his staggering 6’2” stature. An injury to Damarious Randall, who was the starter over King, has opened the door for King to come in and earn his spot.

Unfortunately, King didn’t exactly stand out in his first appearance. The Pack faced the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1 of the preseason, and a missed tackle on behalf of King let the Eagles find the end zone. However, King did have a tackle that led to a forced fumble from a teammate, so it wasn’t a blunder in any way, shape or form. We’ll have to see how the rookie develops.

Washington Redskins

The Redskins finished 8-7-41 in 2016, a step down from winning the division the year before. Washington is looking to get back into winning form and first thing on their agenda is clogging up some holes in their secondary.

Washington is hoping that bringing in a total of 5 defensive players during free agency will help their ailing defense. Likewise, the organization decided to draft a total of 6 defensive players in this year’s draft.

Those new additions got a chance to prove themselves to the online NFL betting community when Washington faced Baltimore this past Thursday. Defensively, the Redskins weren’t awful, allowing 267 total yards. However, Washington’s offense had a hard time keeping up with the 23 points the Ravens put up. The Redskins lost 23-3, making it clear this team has room to improve before opening day.
