Jets vs Browns betting odds and predictions

Week 5 is filled to the brim with intriguing online NFL betting matchups. But in addition to some eye-catching matchups, there are also a handful of contests that will likely end up being closer to dull than thrilling. Such is this Sunday’s pairing between the New York Jets and the Cleveland Browns. A team that is struggling to find its identity takes on a team that has yet to win a game this season. Let’s take a gander at what NFL sportsbooks are predicting will go down this weekend.

New York Jets vs. Cleveland Browns – Sunday, October 8th

When: 1:00 pm ET

Where: FirstEnergy Stadium, Cleveland, Ohio

Stream: CBS Sports, NFL Game Pass

Online NFL Betting Odds:

New York Jets -1 (-109)        39 ½ (-108)     -115

Cleveland Browns +1 (-111) 39 ½ (-112)     -105

New York Jets

The Jets fly into this matchup sporting a 2-2 record that ranks them 3rd in the AFC East. Additionally, New York comes into this game riding a 2-game win streak after picking up consecutive wins over the Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars. However, neither the Dolphins nor the Jaguars are what you would consider a top-tier team so those wins don’t do much to hype up the Jets. But hey, at least they’re not winless 5 weeks into the season. But despite having 2 wins on the season, online NFL betting bookmakers are barely favoring the Jets over Cleveland.

The above pictured tweet brags about McCown’s completion percentage, which is sitting at 70.1% second only to the 76.0% mark set forth by Alex Smith. This Sunday, McCown that ranks 23rd against the pass. If the Jets can develop their run game early, McCown shouldn’t have much of a problem matching his completion percentage.

Instrumental to a New York victory will be stopping Cleveland’s offense. Luckily for the Jets, the Browns are far from what you would consider elite. Cleveland’s offense currently ranks 28th in scoring, 26th in total offense, 17th in passing, and 27th in rushing.

Cleveland Browns

The 0-4 Browns are vying to get their first win of the season. During this year’s online NFL betting preseason, Cleveland managed to post an undefeated record through all 4 preseason matches. This gave players betting NFL online a false sense of hope that the Browns would be a great team to pick as an upset all season long. However, that hasn’t exactly panned out.

Despite being winless, the Browns have hung in there, displayed character, and competed with the best so far in 2017. Against the Steelers, Cleveland suffered but a 3-point deficit. The following week they would lose by two possessions against the Ravens, which doesn’t paint them in a positive light.

The next week, versus the Indianapolis Colts, online sportsbooks actually had the Browns pegged as the betting favorites. Cleveland fell short once again by 3 points, but the team has to feel like they are on the verge of getting their first win of the season. Will it be against the New York Jets?
