New England Patriots vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers Odds and Game Preview

Thursday night football returns this week with a matchup between two playoff contenders. The New England Patriots, who have more problems on their plate than most online NFL betting fans could’ve anticipated, will travel to Florida to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Thursday. At first glance this matchup might not seem all that alluring but upon closer inspection, it’s clear that the Bucs could hand New England their third loss of the season to give the Pats a losing record. If that’s not enough to get your riled up about this Thursday night’s matchup, I don’t know what is. Let’s see what sports betting sites have to say about the Bucs’ chances this Thursday.

New England Patriots vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Thurs., October 5th

Online NFL Betting Odds:

New England Patriots -4 ½ (-115)    54 (-110)

Tampa Bay Buccaneers +4 ½ (-105)            54 (-110)

New England Patriots

The Patriots need a win this Thursday. At 2-2, New England is currently tied with the New York Jets for 2nd place in the AFC East – a position that is new for the Pats. New England has been bested by the Kansas City Chiefs and the Carolina Panthers so far this season. There’s no question that the Chiefs are one of the best teams in the league and this weekend’s performance from the Panthers has left many online NFL betting fans feeling like Carolina is starting to fit in that category. Bottom line, if the Pats can’t find a way to win on the road this Thursday, they will no longer be thought of as elite.

It’s no mystery as to what is holding back New England this season, and it’s not their 5-time Super Bowl winning quarterback. Instead, it’s their defense that forced just one punt from the Carolina Panthers this past Sunday. The poor performance from the defense brings up a valid point when comparing Brady to Peyton Manning or Aaron Rodgers. One hallmark of Manning’s career was that he had to contend with a terrible defense – something Rodgers has had to deal with as well. NFL sportsbook players are quick to crown Brady as the greatest QB of all time without considering how blessed he has been to have a terrific defense behind him. Take that away and it’s clear Brady will fall short every time.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Bucs came up big against the New York Giants this past Sunday, coming out on top 25-23 on the road. Tampa Bay came into that game as the NFL sportsbook favorites and they didn’t disappoint. The performance further solidified the Bucs’ prowess in the NFC South, where they are focused on chasing down the 3-1 Carolina Panthers for the lead in the division. Jameis Winston had a big day this past Sunday throwing for 3 scores and further proving that he is the future of this franchise.
