Atlanta Falcons vs. Detroit Lions Lastes Odds and Betting Preview – Sunday, September 24th

The Atlanta Falcons are coming into this year’s season with a bit of chip on their shoulder. After struggling to get a ticket to the Super Bowl, the Falcons missed the opportunity to win the franchise’s first Vince Lombardi Trophy in cataclysmic fashion. Atlanta blew the biggest online NFL betting lead in league history and has been the vocal point of various memes since.

Judging by how the Falcons kicked off the 2017 season, it’s safe to say that Atlanta is hell bent on getting back to the title match. Atlanta has already made their way to the top of the NFC South by picking up a Week 1 win over the lowly Chicago Bears before following that up with a tough win against one of the best teams in the NFC, the Green Bay Packers. This upcoming weekend, the Falcons have an opportunity to rack up another NFC victory by beating the competent Detroit Lions. What are NFL betting sites saying about it?

Atlanta Falcons -3 (-105)      50 ½ (-110)     -165

Detroit Lions +3 (-115)          50 ½ (-110)     +144

Atlanta Falcons

On top of their 2-0 record, the Falcons also come into this Sunday’s contest with one of the best offenses in the league. Right now Atlanta ranks as the 8th best scoring offense, 8th best passing game, and 17th best running game in the NFL. The Falcons could probably find some more success with Devonta Freeman out of the backfield if they were committed to the run. But why should they commit to the run when they have the reigning MVP tossing the pigskin around.

One thing the Falcons can improve is their defense. Were it not for a few lucky turnovers, and a handful of injuries on the Green Bay Packers’ side of the ball, Atlanta would have had a much tougher time beating the reigning NFC North champions. Against an offense as explosive as the Lions, the Falcons will need a strong performance to come out on top in this shootout.

Detroit Lions

Like the Falcons, Detroit also comes into this weekend’s contest with a 2-0 betting NFL online record. The Lions opened up the season by facing the Arizona Cardinals, a team widely considered to be a playoff contender, and defeating them 35-23. The following week Detroit delivered a masterful 24-10 win against the New York Giants. The Giants stock has been dipping, so that win doesn’t do much to solidify Detroit’s current power rankings. However, online bookmakers have taken notice of Matt Stafford and company. Just look at the odds they’re giving them this Sunday.

The Lions come into this game with one of the best scoring offenses in the league. Right now Detroit ranks 6th in terms of points scored. However, their total offense ranks 17th in the game. Either the Lions are having trouble moving the ball, or their defense has just been giving them terrific field position week in and week out.
