Online NFL Betting Favoring Giants over Lions?
Posted by: Mike Davis
The Detroit Lions and New York Giants are set to take center stage as Week 2’s Monday Night Football matchup is in our crosshairs. It’s an intriguing matchup between two teams that made the playoff cut last season and it’s definitely bound to draw some interesting online NFL betting action.
Detroit Lions vs. New York Giants – Monday, September 18th
When: 8:30 pm ET
Where: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey
Stream: Watch ESPN
Online NFL Betting Odds:
Detroit Lions +3 (EV) 42 (-110) +148
New York Giants -3 (-120) 42 (-110) -170
The Lions kicked off their 2017 season by facing the Arizona Cardinals at home . The Cardinals were coming off a disappointing season in 2016, but many NFL wagering fans still consider them to be a potential playoff contender. In other words, the Lions were facing a sizable challenge; one they overcame 35-23.
The Lions managed to gain 367 yards of offense on the day. Matt Stafford threw for 292 on the day and put up 4 touchdowns and a lone interception to earn a 113.1 passer rating. Detroit’s running game found some success as they averaged the day with 3 yards per carry. Defensively Detroit fared fairly well, holding the Lions to a total of 308 yards and picking off Carson Palmer 3 times.
The Lions have a great opportunity before them; to defeat the Giants and get a lead over the Packers in the NFC North. Last season, Detroit led the North for most of the second half of the season. Nevertheless, the Lions suffered a string of losses to close out the season and failed to win the division. This year, they’ll need as much of a lead as they can get in order to prevent the same online NFL betting crisis from occurring.
New York Giants
Unlike the Lions, the Giants are coming off a Week 1 loss. To kick off the 2017 season, New York had the pleasure of facing their NFC East rivals the Dallas Cowboys. Last season, the Cowboys only suffered 2 losses on the year both of which came at the hands of the Giants. However, it’s clear that this year will be a different story as New York has already conceded a loss in their first matchup of the season.
The Giants finished the day with 233 yards on offense while the Cowboys had little difficulty racking up 392 themselves. Eli Manning threw for 220 yards, zero touchdowns and a meager 21.1 QBR. The Giants running game was unable to pick up the slack either as they finished the day with 35 yards on 12 carries. The opposite was true for the Cowboys, who finished the day with 129 yards on 31 attempts.
It wouldn’t be an understatement to say that New York is in dire need of a win this evening. No team in the NFC East is 2-0 but if the Giants succumb to the Lions this evening they would be the only 0-2 team in the division. The NFL football odds are siding with the Giants, but it doesn’t feel like they can get it done against Stafford and the Lions’ high-powered offense.
