Online NFL Betting Battle of Winless Teams
Posted by: Anthony Yaylor
The New York Giants and Los Angeles Chargers have both stumbled into the 2017 online NFL betting season. The Giants, one of last season’s playoff teams, were expecting a strong start to Ben McAdoo’s second season at the helm. Similarly, the Chargers had a feeling that they could get it right this season but have failed utterly so far this year. However, with both the Giants and the Chargers sporting losing records so far, this Sunday’s contest might turn out to be a snoozer. Then again, neither team has won a game so far this season and barring a miraculous upset this Sunday, somebody’s 0 has got to go. Let’s see which team sports betting sites are siding with in Week 5.
Los Angeles Chargers vs. New York Giants – Sunday, October 8th
When: 1:00 pm ET
Where: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey
Stream: CBS Sports, NFL Game Pass
Online NFL Betting Odds:
Los Angeles Chargers +3 (-105) 45 (-110) +141
New York Giants -3 (-115) 45 (-110) -161
Los Angeles Chargers
At 0-4, the Chargers are unquestionably the worst team in the AFC West. Los Angeles has the misfortune of sharing a division with some of the best teams in the NFL; the Chiefs, the Broncos and Raiders. Sure, Oakland just lost their starting quarterback to injury, but it’s seems unfeasible that the Chargers could rebound and become a force to be reckoned with in this division. Even if they manage to surpass the Raiders, they’re not getting past Kansas City or Denver.
Putting it simply, the Chargers are pretty terrible on both sides of the ball. Phillip Rivers may be putting up decent numbers in the passing game (LA currently ranks 6th in terms of passing) but all those yards have not translated into points for the Chargers. Los Angeles currently ranks 24th in the NFL in scoring.
Defensively the Chargers have improvements to make as well. The Chargers now rank 23rd in points allowed, yards allowed and rank penultimate against the run. Los Angeles has defended the pass pretty well however, considering that they rank 6th in the NFL against the pass. This might come in hand against New York considering that the Giants have the league’s 7th best passing game but 31st worst running game. With that in mind, taking the Chargers straight up doesn’t seem like a bad idea for online NFL betting fans.
New York Giants
It’s hard to visualize a way in which New York can win this contest. As aforementioned, the Giants like to pass and they’re probably not going to find too much success through the air this Sunday. Defensively New York is allowing 23.8 points per game, so Rivers and company might run up the score on them. Unless the Giants’ special teams manages to take a few back to the house, NFL sportsbook players might want to avoid a bet on Big Blue.
