Oakland Raiders vs. Los Angeles Chargers AFC West Betting Odds

Jon Gruden is back in Oakland but winning isn’t back in that city. Gruden was paid a heap ton of money to come back into the NFL and naturally the NFL betting online spotlight landed right on him. Unfortunately for Gruden, he hasn’t been able to deliver. Three weeks into the season and the Raiders were still winless. The only reason they managed to break that drought was because the NFL’s officiating crew decided to come in and ensure an Oakland win over the Cleveland Browns this past weekend. Will the officiating crew play a deciding hand in this weekend’s Oakland Raiders vs. Los Angeles Chargers matchup? Before we answer that, let’s take a good look at the legal betting online odds to get an idea of what we can expect out of this matchup.

Oakland Raiders

The Raiders might be the most pitiful team in the league. At 1-3, most NFL betting online players agree that Oakland would be winless if the officiating crew didn’t rob Baker Mayfield in last week’s Thursday Night matchup. Ultimately the Raiders biggest shortcoming this season is their lack of defensive playmaking. You know who’s one hell of a playmaker on defense? Khalil Mack. The man Gruden decided to ignore instead of trying to re-sign. Now, Gruden has to deliver some results or answer for this horrendous decision. Hopefully the NFL’s officiating crew isn’t there to bail him and the Raiders out this Sunday. All in all these teams are 5-5 in their last 10 matchups so this outcome could truly go either way here.

Players to Watch: Derek Carr (1,373 passing yards, 6 TD, 7 INT), Marshawn Lynch (300 rushing yards, 3 TD, 0 F), and Jared Cook (370 receiving yards, 2 TD, 26 REC).

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers charge into this AFC West matchup sporting a meager 2-2 record. Right now the division is heralded by the 4-0 Chiefs. With that in mind, it’s clear the Chargers need a rebound stat in order to avoid losing too much ground in the divisional race. Like the Raiders, Los Angeles is having their share of defensive woes. However, those woes are expected to dwindle once Joey Bosa returns to the starting lineup. Luckily, Los Angeles’ offense has been hitting their stride and has bailed their defense out twice this season. Right now Los Angeles is averaging 27.8 per game while giving up 30.0. For comparison, Oakland is putting up 24.3 while allotting 30.8. Clearly this matchup should come down to the wire. Ultimately, the team that commits fewer mistakes should come out on top.

Players to Watch: Philip Rivers (1,156 passing yards, 11 TD, 2 INT), Melvin Gordon (276 rushing yards, 2 TD, 0 F), and Keenan Allen (282 receiving yards, 1 TD, 24 REC).
