NFL Week 1 Betting: Atlanta Falcons Vs. Minnesota Vikings Odds
Posted by: Mike Davis
Certainly, two of the biggest disappointments of the 2018 season were the Falcons and Vikings. Atlanta has not lived down their epic Super Bowl choke and may never will. Minnesota was the NFL betting favorite to win the NFC last year but was not up to the task. Now both teams begin the season as classic beaten favorites. Each is seen as teams that could potentially make the playoffs or flop badly. Atlanta’s big problem has been a defense that has often been rendered helpless. By contrast, Minnesota’s weakness was an offense that was stalled from the start.

Supplementing the Falcons NFL betting woes last year was a MASH unit injury list. Atlanta was simply not deep enough to overcome the onslaught. Optimism has returned for 2019 beginning with new offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter. Koetter will be in his second tour of duty leading the Falcons attack. It follows that he is one of the most respected offensive minds in the game. Head coach Dan Quinn will take over the defense himself. Increasingly Quinn’s seat is getting hotter and he will succeed or fail on his own terms. With Matt Ryan at quarterback, Atlanta has a shot every week.
Players to Watch: QB Matt Ryan (69.4% COMP, 4924 YDS, 35 TD, 7 INT, 108.1 RTG), RB Devonta Freeman (68 YDS, 4.9 YPC, 5 REC, 4.6 YPC), WR Julio Jones (113 REC, 1677 YDS, 14.8 YPC, 8 TD), WR Mohamed Sanu (66 REC, 838 YDS, 12.7 4 TD), WR Calvin Ridley (64 REC, 821 YDS, 12.8 YPC, 10 TD), TE Austin Hooper (71 REC, 660 YDS, 9.2 YPC, 4 TD), PK Giorgio Tavecchio (5-5 FG, 8-8 XP), S Damontae Kazee (7 INT)
At the onset of last season, the arrival of quarterback Kirk Cousins was seen as the final piece to Minnesota’s Super Bowl puzzle. Indeed, the Vikings invested $84 million on Cousins. The good news is that Cousins will not have to carry the team himself as head coach Mike Zimmer prefers a more balanced and old school approach. Defensively the Vikings have one of the best units in the NFL. Additionally, Gary Kubiak arrives as assistant head coach. Kubiak has a strong offensive mind and won a Super Bowl as Denver’s head man.
Players to Watch: QB Kirk Cousins (70.1% COMP, 4298 YDS, 30 TD, 10 INT, 9.7 RTG), RB Dalvin Cook (615 YDS, 4.6 YPC, 2 TD, 40 REC, 7.6 YPC, 2 TD), DE Danielle Hunter (71 TACKLES, 14.5 SACK), WR Stefon Diggs (102 REC, 1021 YDS, 10.0 YPC, 9 TD), TE Kyle Rudolph (64 REC, 634 YDS, 9.9 YPC, 4 TD), PK Dan Bailey (21-28 FG, 30-31 XP)
