NFL Football Betting Lines for Chicago Bears vs. Detroit Lions

Posted by: Mariela Miranda

This NFL wagering weekend, football betting websites are pulling out all the stops to make Saturday’s action as enticing as possible. As most football sportsbook players know, the 2017 college football betting season is officially under wrap. In other words, Saturday’s TV slots are now more open than ever. And the NFL is looking to fill those spots as best as possible, to begin with this weekend’s action. So, let’s take a look at the action bookmakers have put together for this Saturday’s Chicago Bears vs. Detroit Lions NFC North matchup.

Chicago Bears vs. Detroit Lions – Saturday, December 16th

When: 4:30 pm ET

Where: Ford Field, Detroit, Michigan

TV: NFL Network

Stream: NFL Game Pass

NFL Football Betting Lines:

Chicago Bears +5 ½ (-110)   44 (-115)

Detroit Lions -5 ½ (-110)       44 (-105)

Chicago Bears

The Bears stagger into this NFC North rivalry with a 4-9 record that pegs them as the worst team in the NFC North. Chicago hasn’t delivered a winning season since god knows when and it’s already too late for them to salvage the 2017 season. Be that as it may, the Bears ultimately have a great opportunity to ruin a rivals’ day and quite possibly their playoff opportunities. What more could you ask for from an end of the year NFL football betting matchup?

A point often overlooked with the 2017 Bears is just how good Chicago is through the ground. The Bears rank 7th in the NFL with an average of 124.5 rushing yards gained each weekend. However, despite the brilliance they’ve enjoyed this season, the Bears haven’t been able to mount anything around that tremendous running game. Bettors can expect a similar result in this Chicago Bears vs. Detroit Lions matchup.

The Bears rank 29th in scoring and dead last in passing. Comparatively, the Miami Dolphins have the 19th best passing attack. Considering that the Fins have Jay Cutler, the Bears’ former starter, lining up under center, Chicago must be regretting the decision to let Cutler go at the current time. Chicago’s top-ranked running game will be going up against the league’s 20th best run defense this weekend.

Detroit Lions

The Lions pounce into this Saturday evening pairing with a 7-6 record that ranks Detroit 2nd in the NFC North. Since the 10-3 Minnesota Vikings currently lead the North, Detroit doesn’t have much chance of winning the division this season. Nevertheless, Detroit could very well make a push for a Wild Card berth. That push starts this Saturday by picking up a win over the underdog Bears. The NFL football betting money line hasn’t come out yet but bettors can expect the odds to heavily favor Detroit over Chicago. The Lions last took to the gridiron to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a 24-21 winning effort.

Although the money line hasn’t come out yet, current estimates project the line falling in the -220 to -260 range. Clearly, this isn’t the most profitable line available on this rivalry. Instead of betting straight up, bettors can rack up a larger payout by making bets on the spread. Chicago is 3-3 against the spread on the road this season while the Lions are 6-6-1 themselves.
