NFL Betting Websites Size Up Titans-Jags Matchup

The Jacksonville Jaguars had a terrific start to the 2017 NFL wagering season by delivering a massive upset over the Houston Texans. However, most people are writing off the win as a big fluke on behalf of the Texans rather than giving some credit to the triumphant Jaguars. This weekend, we’ll find out if Jacksonville deserves some merit or if their win truly was a coincidence like most NFL betting websites are claiming.
This Sunday, the Jaguars will open up their stadium to the Tennessee Titans – marking the second week in a row Jacksonville has faced a divisional opponent. Like the Titans, the Jaguars are coming off a disappointing loss. Which team should players who bet online favor this weekend?
Tennessee Titans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars – Sunday, September 17th
When: 1:00 pm ET
Where: EverBank Field, Jacksonville
Stream: CBS Sports, NFL Game Pass
Online NFL Wagering Lines:
Tennessee Titans -2 (-110) 43 (-110) -131
Jacksonville Jaguars +2 (-110) 43 (-110) +111
The Titans had the misfortune of facing the Oakland Raiders in Week 1, the Raiders being that team robbed of a shot at the playoffs by a late-season injury to Derek Carr. Naturally, Oakland came into this season with a bit of a chip on their shoulder, ready to take their anger out on the NFL. Or in this case, the Tennessee Titans.
The Titans did all they could to stop the Raiders, but they couldn’t really do much. Out of the 9 offensive possessions Oakland had (not counting the final 1-play drive that featured Carr taking a knee) only 3 ended in a punt. If you can only stop an offense 3 times in an NFL game, you’re not going to enjoy much success.
Offensively, the Titans had some success moving the Football. Tennessee was able to score on their opening drive and only punted once in the 1st half. However, it’s clear that the Raiders made the right adjustments at the half considering that, after the start of the 3rd, Tennessee was forced to punt on their opening 2 possessions.
Despite the poor showing, the NFL wagering odds are favoring the Titans over the Jaguars. Which is even more perplexing when considering how strong of an outing Jacksonville had in Week 1.
Other than the Kansas City Chiefs, who upset the New England Patriots in Week 1, the Jaguars delivered the biggest bombshell of opening week. The Jaguars faced the Houston Texans this past Sunday, the Texans being the reigning AFC South champions and the team NFL wagering sites have pegged as the favorite to win the division again this year.
But behind 3 forced fumbles and a lone interception, the underdogs were able to hand Houston a 29-7 loss. The Jaguars deserve tremendous credit for their triumph, but it should be stated that their offense has plenty of room to improve and if anyone is going to accept credit for this past weekend’s performance it should be their defense.
Blake Bortles finished the day with 125 yards and a single touchdown. However, his QBR rating of 57.4 perfectly communicates Bortles’ level of play on the day. If the Jaguars are serious about competing for the division title – or a win against Tennessee this Sunday, they’ll need Bortles to pick up the slack.
