NFL Betting Showdown in the NFC East

The Philadelphia Eagles were flying high heading into their Week 4 Bye Week. After shocking the entire online NFL betting community by starting the season 3-0, many fans were hopeful that Philadelphia’s undefeated streak would last a little while longer. In Week 5 the Eagles faced the Detroit Lions, and with a Byes Weeks rest, the Eagles were pegged as favorites over the Lions. But now that the dust has settled it’s obvious that the early Bye Week did more harm than good for the Eagles, considering Detroit snapped Philadelphia’s win streak. With the upset the Lions earned their second win of the season, and the Eagles lost their position as the frontrunners in the NFC East.

Now in Week 6 Philadelphia will get a pristine opportunity to assert themselves in the division by facing their NFC East rival, the Washington Redskins. The Cowboys, who currently lead the East with their 4-1 record, are 1-1 in the division so far this season. This will be the first time the Eagles face an opponent from the East so it is of utmost importance that the Eagles come out on top. Let’s see how close of a matchup most football betting sites are predicting for this Sunday.

Week 6 – Sunday, October 16th

Eagles -2½ (-115) 44½ (-110) -143
Redskins +2½ (-105) 44½ (-110) +123

Had the Eagles not fallen to the Lions, the online NFL betting odds would probably have favored Philadelphia more. The Eagles are still coming in as the favorites, just not by much.

Carson Wentz had been hailed as the hero of Philadelphia through the first four weeks of the season. For good reason, the young rook had been a sensation and even finished two games with a passer rating over 100.0. Unfortunately Wentz couldn’t pull through for Philadelphia in their game against Detroit. Wentz still had a great game, completing 25/33 passes for 238 yards and 2 scores. Unfortunately, the Eagles needed their young star to mount a 4th quarter comeback with 1:28 on the clock. This was the first time this season that Wentz was put in a position where he needed to mount a comeback, every other game so far had the Eagles up in the 4th. Ultimately, Wentz proved unable to lead his team to a victory and ended up throwing his first interception of the season on the Eagles’ last drive of the game. Wentz had been flawless so far this season, and seeing him fail a comeback has to be a blow to the confidence of Eagles’ fans.

On the other hand, the Washington Redskins began the season by losing two in a row but quickly bounced back and have won the last three. Washington currently finds themselves at 3-2 and a win against the Eagles would go a long way for the Redskins. No team has won the East consecutively in the last 11 years, but the Redskins are hopeful that they can defy the online NFL betting odds and win the East for the second year in a row.
