New York Jets
The Jets were humiliated in their previous matchup. Pitted against the superior New England Patriots, they were denied any score. It was a unanimous loss for the team, and their stats were highly indicative of a bad matchup. QB Sam Darnold did a mediocre 11/32 at 86 passing yards. He provided 4 picks throughout the game, but with no thrown touchdowns. Le’Veon Bell was very restricted in rushing, racking up only 70 yards. His long run of 19 yards was still not enough to merit a touchdown. Demaryius Thomas settled for measly 3 catches. It was a bad game for the Jets as they surrendered 324 yards and 1 turnover. Despite the Jet’s heroic 53 plays, they were unable to penetrate the enemy’s defenses. They were also hopeless against the rushing machine of the Patriots, which resulted in 34 successful rush attempts.
The New York Jets are now a certified cellar-dweller, having lost their chance to score an unlikely win. They have a very low scoring rate and defense output. It would be best for the team to just chalk up this season to experience and use it as motivation to be better next year.
Players to watch: Sam Darnold (105 ATT 62 CMP 599 YDS 3 TD), Le’Veon Bell (100 CAR 326 YDS 3.3 AVG 1 TD) Ty Montgomery (11 CAR 40 YDS 3.6 AVG 0 TD), Jamison Crowder (32 REC 298 YDS 9.3 AVG 0 TDS), Robby Anderson (17 REC 266 YDS 15.6 AVG 1 TDS), Le’Veon Bell (29 REC 175 YDS 6 AVG 1 TDS), Demaryius Thomas (12 REC 150 YDS 12.5 AVG 0 TDS).
The Jaguars are on high spirits after a conclusive win versus the Cincinnati Bengals at 27-17. QB Gardner Minshew II showed his mettle by going 15/32 with 255 air yards. He was able to toss 1 touchdown and zero interceptions. Leonard Fournette was not to be left behind. He took charge of carrying the ball 29 times. Dede Westbrook did 6 big receptions for a total of 103 yards gained. The Jaguars were in their element. They rushed 44 times, helping them gain 216 out of their total 460 yards. Among their 78 plays, they went for first-down 22 times. However, they need better discipline as they were slapped with 11 penalties that cost them 130 yards. The Jaguars kept their jaws tight on defense, allowing only an impressive 51% completion rate for their opponent. Despite their focused defense, they still conceded 291 yards and 4 takeaways.
The Jaguars seem to be improving on their scoring rate. This is the reason why they were able to secure a relatively easy victory in their previous matchup. They have to remember not to leave behind their air defense, however. With consistent performance, the Jaguars may yet make it to the middle-tier of NFL rankings.
