New York Giants
The Giants finished last year’s action with a 5-11 record that saw them finish dead last in the NFC East. This was an extremely small improvement from the 3-13 record they had delivered the previous year. All in all, the Giants have been mired in controversy for the last couple of years. Although Pat Shurmur has helped dial some of that down, OBJ’s departure has stirred the pot quite a bit. Without OBJ the Giants have lost some explosiveness on offense. Nevertheless, Barkley is one of the best young running backs in the game. One of the more astounding aspects of his play is that he was able to rack up over 1,300 rushing yards without fumbling once. That’s something you simply cannot coach.
Players to Watch: Eli Manning (4,299 passing yards, 21 TD, 11 INT), Saquon Barkley (1,307 rushing yards, 11 TD, 0 F).
The Cowboys took advantage of an up-for-grabs NFC East by delivering a 10-6 record to finish No. 1 in the NFC East. This was a sizable improvement from the 2nd place finish Dallas delivered the previous season. Once in the playoffs, Dallas faced Seattle in the Wild Card round and managed to advance past the Seahawks 24-22. Unfortunately that’s as far as they would get as the Rams quickly eliminated them 22-30. Now Dallas looks to make their way into the playoffs once again. Offensively they have talent and consistency that should help them take advantage in the division. However, Jason Garrett’s play book is far from revolutionary and this could cost Dallas in the end. Defensively they’re a solid team and we should see that from the get go.
Players to Watch: Dak Prescott (3,885 passing yards, 22 TD, 8 INT), Ezekiel Elliott (1,434 rushing yards, 6 TD, 6 F), and Amari Cooper (725 receiving yards, 6 TD, 53 REC).
