New York Desperate for a Giant Turnaround
When odds-makers were making their preseason online football betting lines, the majority of them had the New York Giants pegged as the second favorites within the NFC East. Even though it had been three years since Big Blue had enjoyed a winning season, bookies were still confident that Eli Manning would be able to lead his team to success. It didn’t matter that the Giants were coming in with a brand new coaching staff, it didn’t matter that the NFC East is loaded with talent, none of it mattered; the Giants were still the second favorites to win the division. Well, those predictions couldn’t have been farther from the truth. Thanks to their Week 5 loss against the Green Bay Packers, the Giants fell to a 2-3 record, as well as to the bottom of the East. New York desperately needs a turnaround, but if they continue to play as poor as they have been, it’s very unlikely that they’ll get one. Especially against their Week 6 opponent, the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens are coming off a heartbreaking loss themselves, will that be enough for football betting sites to side with the Giants on this one?
Week 6 – October the 16th
Baltimore Ravens +3 (-120) 43½ (-110) +140
New York Giants -3 (EV) 43½ (-110) -160
Despite the fact that the Ravens have the better record, the online football betting odds are still siding with the Giants. The Ravens had a strong start to the season by beating their first three opponents. Many critics were praising Baltimore for such a defiant start, but the truth of the matter is that Baltimore was facing rather easy opposition. The last two weeks the Ravens have been getting put to the test by teams that are of a much higher caliper, and unfortunately the Ravens haven’t been rising to the occasion. This past weekend they lost to the reigning NFC East champions, the Washington Redskins. Before that the Oakland Raiders defeated Baltimore. The Ravens might not have been blown out, but at the end of the day a loss is a loss.
Since both teams have been playing inconsistently, online football betting fans might be a little hesitant to pick either team on the money line. Likewise, picking the Giants to cover the spread seems like a tempting prediction. After all, it’s not everyday that fans can pick a line with no vig. It may be appealing to pick Big Blue ATS, but fans should consider the fact that the Giants are 0-3-2 ATS so far this season. On the other hand, the Ravens are 2-3 ATS this season, and they’ll be coming into this game with a much better defense. Baltimore ranks in the top 10 for points allowed per game, as well as in the top 5 for total defense, pass defense, and run defense. The Giants don’t look that impressive on either side of the ball, so fans might want to stay away from picking the Giants to cover the spread this Sunday.
