New England Patriots

The New England Patriots are fresh from a low-winning ballgame against the Dallas Cowboys. They secured the win with a 13-9 score. QB Tom Brady was going for 17/37 with 190 passing yards. He chucked in a thrown TD with no interceptions. Sony Michel carried the ball 20 times across 85 yards. Julian Edelman was the top receiver, catching the ball  8 times and extending the team’s territory by 93 yards.

The Patriots usually have high-scoring games, but they were challenged by the staunch defense of their opponent. They had to adjust to a mixed offense style of play in order to make sure they get the points. The Patriots only ran for 27 out of 66 plays. They chalked up a total of 282 yards. They didn’t let their defense slide, however- they managed to hold their opponent to 212 yards. While the yardage gap is not that significant, every yard makes a huge difference, especially in low-scoring ball games.

Defense-wise, the Patriots limited their opponents to a 58% throw completion rate. They didn’t have enough bulk to block off 26 rush attempts, however. The Patriots faced quite a scare in that matchup, but thankfully they averted a disaster due to their team’s confidence and experience. They’ll need it as they take on the other NFL leaders.

Houston Texans

The Texans last assaulted the Indianapolis Colts and squeezed out a 20-17 victory. QB Deshaun Watson made an MVP statement by going 19/30 with 298 air yards. He completed two thrown TDs plus 1 interception. Carlos Hyde was the ground master, carrying the ball 16 times for a total of 67 yards. Fuller V caught the ball 7 times to claim the post of the top receiver. He helped the team extend yardage gain by 140 yards.

The Texans played a very tight game. They ran for 24 times out of 55 plays and accumulated an amazing 396 yards. Their opponent out-ran them, going for 40 rush attempts plus 16 throws. However, their opponent managed to cover only 296 yards. This meant that the Texans were playing rough ball defense. Even if the rush attempts did go through, they didn’t get far ahead. The 64% throw completion rate afforded the opponent some points, but it was thankfully not enough to turn the tables on the Texans.

The Texans made a good approximation of their tactics. They also threw in just the right amount of effort in their defense and offense. If they keep up this style of play, they’ll be a force to be reckoned with.
