New England Patriots
The Pats march into this weekend’s action sporting a 1-1 record that, interestingly enough, ranks them 2nd in the AFC East behind the 2-0 Miami Dolphins. All things considered, the Pats shouldn’t have too hard of a time passing Miami later on in the season. However, a loss against the Lions this weekend would certainly set them back. But considering how poor the Lions have looked thus far into the season, there’s really no reason to suspect they can upset the Pats. Furthermore, Matt Patricia, being a former Bill Belichick understudy, will likely be unable to usurp his former boss. Especially when considering that the Lions are giving up a whopping 39.0 points per game. Nevertheless, some things have come out this week about the Pats organization that paint an intriguing picture.
For those who don’t know, a book was released titled ‘Belichick’ exposing the relationship the head coach has had with the organization. But more specifically, the book sheds some light into the situation in New England. Apparently Tom Brady has grown tired of his coaches’ grumpy attitude. Not so much because he’s been there for so long, but because of the surprising affection Belichick showed Jimmy G. There’s a lot to be said about this debacle but this is the gist. Bottom line, keep an eye on New England’s unfolding drama.
Players to Watch: Tom Brady (511 passing yards, 5 TD, 1 INT), Rex Burkhead (86 rushing yards, 0 TD, 1 F), and Rob Gronkowski (138 receiving yards, 1 TD, 9 REC).
The Lions have failed to live up to their 2018 expectations. Last season, Detroit was on the verge of playoff qualification. So, to help push them over the lead, the organization brought in Patricia – former defensive coordinator for New England. However, there’s a big difference between coaching under Belichick and trying to coach your own team. So far none of Belichick’s prodigies have found success in the NFL. And by the way things are currently going, it doesn’t look like Patricia will be breaking that precedent. The Pats may be coming off a loss but it’s highly unlikely that they lose this road matchup. Not when the Lions have a -4 turnover ratio through just 2 games this season.
Players to Watch: Matt Stafford (633 passing yards, 4 TD, 4 INT), Kerryon Johnson (60 rushing yards, 0 TD, 0 F), and Kenny Golladay (203 receiving yards, 1 TD, 13 REC).
