New England Patriots
The Pats have to get over the Super Bowl blues for yet another time. Luckily for New England, they have proven that they are more than capable of doing so. The only real question surrounding the franchise is whether or not Tom Brady will suffer that cliffhanger that Max Kellerman keeps raving about on ESPN’s First Take. While Kellerman is convinced that Brady’s contributions will drop off all of the sudden in Week 1, it’s pretty clear that won’t be the case. Not because we all love Tom Brady, but because the numbers tell a completely different story. In fact, Brady is coming off one of the best preseason performances of his career. It might not mean much because it’s the preseason but it shows that the old geezer still has the talent, drive and ability to complete at a superior level in the NFL.
Players to Watch: Tom Brady (4,577 passing yards, 32 TD, 8 INT), Mike Gillislee (383 rushing yards, 5 TD, 1 F), and Rob Gronkowski (1,084 receiving yards, 8 TD, 69 REC).
The Panthers managed to make the playoffs last season off of an 11-5 season. Moving forward, the Panthers have plenty of locker room hurdles to get through before they are considered a title contender. Cam Newton is a tremendously talented quarterback but he seems to whine more than any other starting QB in the league. Nothing personal against the man, but it’s a manifestation of the attitude that Newton takes with him under that helmet. Nevertheless, Newton is now a seasoned veteran and should have the experience necessary to take his game to the next level. God knows the Panthers desperately need him to.
Players to Watch: Cam Newton (3,302 passing yards, 22 TD, 16 INT), Jonathan Stewart (680 receiving yards, 6 TD, 3 F), and Devin Funchess (840 receiving yards, 8 TD, 63 REC).
