NFL Betting Online Odds:
New York Jets
The Jets are coming off a 5-11 season and will be vying for a major turnaround. Todd Bowles has maintained his position as head coach despite delivering two consecutive 5-11 seasons. Granted, Bowles debut as the Jets coach saw him take the team to a 10-6 season. By the looks of it, the organization is hopeful he can deliver those type of results once more. However, Bowles will have a tough season ahead of him as New York is sticking with rookie quarterback Sam Darnold out of the woodwork. And while we’ve seen rookie quarterbacks step in and enjoy unprecedented success as of late, there’s no guarantee Darnold excels. One thing the rook does have going for him is a plethora of talent surrounding him. We’ll have to see how much help he gets from the Jets’ defense however.
Players to Watch: Sam Darnold (Rookie), Bilal Powell (772 rushing yards, 5 TD, 0 F), and Robby Anderson (941 receiving yards, 7 TD, 63 REC).
The Lions turned in a 9-7 record last season, narrowly missing out on a playoff berth. Inconsistency plagued Detroit all season long as well as some problems on defense. Moreover, Stafford started to struggle late in the season when the club really needed to string together a win streak. Nevertheless, the Lions still have the pieces in place to be a playoff competitor this time around. But since they posted a 1-3 record in the preseason, some are wondering if Detroit can start fast. Luckily for the Lions, they just happen to be pegged against one of the weaker teams out of the AFC. But if Detroit kicks the season off with a loss, they’ll be losing ground in a very tight NFC North division. Stafford should be good enough to topple the Jets though, all things considered.
Players to Watch: Matt Stafford (4,446 passing yards, 29 TD, 10 INT), Ameer Abdullah (552 rushing yards, 4 TD, 2 F), and Marvin Jones Jr. (1,101 receiving yards, 9 TD, 61 REC).
