Los Angeles Rams
The Rams turned in an eye-catching 13-3 record last season to win both the NFC West and subsequently the whole NFC. The previous season saw Los Angeles turn in a highly successful 11-5 record as well so it’s no mistake to say that LA was able to build off their recent success. Now the Rams have the tough task of following up a Super Bowl loss without catching a case of the Super Bowl blues. As for their 2019 playoff chances, the Rams have way too much talent to not make the postseason. And while the Seahawks could pose a threat in the NFC West, the rest of the NFC West is pretty much up in the air. At the end of the day the Rams are too explosive on offense and too talented on defense to expect any sort of underperforming season from them.
Players to Watch: Jared Goff (4,688 passing yards, 32 TD, 12 INT), Todd Gurley II (1,251 rushing yards, 17 TD, 0 F), and Robert Woods (1,219 receiving yards, 6 TD, 86 REC).
The Panthers finished last year’s action with a 7-9 record that saw them finish 3rd in the NFC South. This was undoubtedly a massive step down from the 11-5 record the club delivered the previous season that led to a Wild Card berth. All things considered, the Panthers’ offense struggles due to the inconsistent play at quarterback from Cam Newton. But Newton isn’t wholly to blame due to the fact that he gets less calls than any other quarterback in the league. There’s no question that Newton is immensely talented and although his accuracy could use some work, there’s no questioning his arm or his ability to scramble. Additionally, it doesn’t help Newton too much to have his runningback be Carolina’s leading receiver. Ultimately it’s up to Carolina to both better protect Newton and to help get him some targets. If they can do that, Newton should have no problem leading this team to another Super Bowl berth.
Players to Watch: Cam Newton (3,395 passing yards, 24 TD, 13 INT), Christian McCaffrey (1,098 rushing yards, 7 TD, 2 F), and DJ Moore (788 receiving yards, 2 TD, 55 REC).
